Foxhole 2 Godolphin 2

Wednesday 19th August 2009

Substitute Dave Moore's brilliant ninety-second minute volley denied Foxhole the victory their spirited second-half performance warranted at gloomy Goverseth. However, a point had been the most they could hope for at the break after Godolphin had dominated the opening half with confident passing and clever movement, without, it must be said, creating a shedload of chances. Phil Lowry's deflected effort had given the visitors the lead after 13 minutes but it wasn't until Josh Harris ran clear half an hour later that a, perhaps decisive, second goal appeared imminent, but the flying winger crucially blazed wide. Griffin was unlucky with an overhead lob and Rowe thumped a fierce left-footed drive straight at the keeper, but the Foxes too often only made fleeting acquaintance with the ball. Typically, the game was entertainingly feisty, Brown being cautioned after a foul on Griffin, and Meens somewhat fortunate that referee Allen deemed his off the ball clash with Lowry worthy of just a booking.

Having changed ends, Foxhole at last realised that, for all their stylishness, Godolphin were susceptible to pressure, particularly as they stubbornly refused to abandon their policy of playing square passes across their own box. The introduction of Lawrence for the ineffective Hazeldine, and a subsequent re-organisation to 4-4-2, sparked an altogether more energetic display and, after Pinhammer had flashed a shot wide, the equaliser came on 63. Kenny's corner was flicked on by Nicholls for McKellar to force home from close-range; within four minutes, another Kenny corner was headed in by Rowe to send the home faithful into raptures. Adam Holland and Paxton each received a yellow card for dissent, but, while Lowry twice went close, Foxhole appeared to be seeing out time relatively comfortably until Moore's heart-breaking wonder strike.

Foxhole (3-5-2): Ryan Holland; Adam Holland, Daniel Meens, Tony McKellar; Sam Kenny, Richard Griffin, Scott Ansell, Mark Rowe, Lee Hazeldine (sub. Dexter Lawrence); Ross Pinhammer, Liam Nicholls.

Godolphin (4-4-2): Sean Semmens; Scott Flannigan, Arron Hawken, Sam Eglinton, Ollie Pinnell; Josh Harris (sub. Ross Fallens), Mark Rose, Kyle Brown, Aidan Martin; Lee Paxton (sub. Dave Moore), Phil Lowry.

Referee: Mr Tony Allen (Bodmin).
