Substitute Matthew Dowrick's clever 88th minute finish struck with the outside of his right foot settled this low-key encounter in which the visitors were often the better side, particularly in the opening half hour. However, they were unable to seriously test Ryan Holland during this period, and, after Nicholls had pulled a shot wide following some good skill, and Solomon had cleared Carpenter's far post effort off the line, Foxhole opened the scoring five minutes before the break. David Grose picked out Faircloth's run into the box and the Welshman took advantage of hesitant defending to lob Rosevear from fifteen yards. Rowe ought to have doubled the lead moments later, but his close-range header from Kenny's inswinging corner was weak, allowing Rosevear to gather at the second attempt.

The action briefly gathered pace after the break, the best chance falling to Griffin, whose half volley was well saved. Sticker's equaliser on 58 was not entirely unexpected though, Avery's twenty yard effort curling inside the far post, and Camps soon extended Holland with a fierce drive. With neither team suggesting they would be pushing for honours in their respective leagues, the game looked to be petering out to a tame draw until Dowrick's late winner, although this sparked less debate among the home faithful than the fact that talented local boy Rundle was again left kicking his heels on the bench.
