Camelford 2 Foxhole 1

Saturday 2nd May 2009

Foxes came within fifteen minutes of snatching a draw but succumbed to a penalty from the impressive Menhinick, harshly awarded for hands against Adam Holland. Ultimately, however, Foxhole just did not possess enough in reserve to cover the numerous absentees and were often second best. While Colwill had to react smartly to parry Panter's early drive, Camelford soon took charge and went ahead on 13 when Prince's weak clearance was rammed home from six yards by Haynes. The Foxes remained on the back foot for most of the half, albeit without too many alarms for Billy Holland, so it was a surprise when Butler escaped the attention of the otherwise solid home defence seconds from the break before his run was ended by a clumsy challenge by Metherell. Butler himself confidently converted the spot-kick to give the half-time score a flattering look.

Menhinick's lob immediately after the restart almost restored the Camels' lead before the Foxes best spell saw both Prince and Butler rattle the bar and Friendship fire wide after stealing the ball off a dithering Balsdon, an incident that inexplicably incensed Balsdon and Colwill to the extent they were both booked for dissent. However, Menhinick's winner came during a period of home pressure in which substitute Hicks' goal-bound effort was blocked by Adam Holland, and Boardman struck the bar from close range; regrettably, a second equaliser to soften the blow of a dismal finale to the season was never on the cards.
