  1. In twelve years at Trevassack I have never seen the pitches so wet there seems to be literally no where for the water to go. Like Mark I spiked the main pitch on tuesday in anticipation, but today as you walk on it the soil is being drawn up through the grass. Saturday with the forecast is looking unlikely.!
  2. Not so far away from happening in Cornwall I'm afraid. Earlier in the season a referee in a junior game was threatened with physical abuse. Although fortuneately club officials stepped in and provided protection, but the threat was very real and very disturbing.
  3. I'm not sure what the main issue has turned out to be on this post, but I know Mark Jones will have tried his damndest to get saturday's and tuesday's game on. He is fighting a battle with Bickland that would break the heart of most volunteer groundsmen. Not one groundsperson I know, would not want to play every time a game is fixtured. We curse and swear about the abuse our pitches get, but it's part of our make up to go out there and recover it for the next fixture. Our main problems are Coaches, Managers and Players probably in that order, the weather we can't control but with a bit of effort and good practice we can mitigate most of the problems the met office can throw at us. But we must have the tools to do this, and most clubs haven't the kit or the money to spend on good drainage systems. This summer has been particularly difficult, we have the water, but too much. All the nutrients I have put into the pitches has washed out, the grass has grown, but there has been insufficient sunshine to give it its neccessary sugars and strength to overwinter, I've had seed rot in the ground before it has germinated. I've overseeded and fed the grass recently, but it's all money off the bottom line, so something else has to suffer. So please don't blame the likes of Mark, for not seeing or playing your game at the right time he will be just as gutted as you. In the meantime next time we get a downpour nip along and see if you can give an hour or two with a fork to help out.
  4. Tight pitch have to say that is a new one to me, 110 yards x 74 yards ,which exceeds the latest FA guidelines slightly. I will accept that the grass was a little long about 30mm, but this is in consultation with the SWPL team and management. The wind sorry can't do anything about that except perhaps eat less vegetables. Just to correct Anthony it is 3 years on the bounce for the best pitch in division 1 west.
  5. I can't answer for any other league, but the SWPL is governed by the FA not the CCFA.The SWPL rules state that any club going into administration shall be deducted 10 points. There is no such rule in the JCCL or lower leagues, which are governed by the CCFA. As for what has happened in other administrations I can't answer, but be assured that the SWPL Secretary has sought guidance from the FA before imposing the deduction. I hope that this goes some way to answering the query.
  6. Hayle 2 Penryn 0 cracking game from the spectators point of view missed chances, both sides hit the post and cross bar several times. Both keepers made a string of good saves. Kevin Lawrence and Chris Bullock with the goals 60 minutes and 75. Only down side Chris Wolstencroft off to Treliske, after collision with keeper left him out cold with a bad cut to inside of upper lip.
  7. Hi Mandy, just in the proccess of finishing a rabbit fence around our two pitches on the main site. Basically chicken wire with 25mm mesh 1 metre wide.Bury the wire 300mm deep with a 150mm turn back facing the way rabbits come in, in our case from the hedge. Support with fencing posts every 3/4 metres with 3mm wire strung between them, cable tie mesh to wire. back fill trench. Very effective, gone from 75 -100 rabbit scrapings every week to nil on main pitch . You need 25mm mesh because if a rabbit can get his head through the mesh the rest will follow. We used 500metres of mesh at about 75p/metre avaiable through your local farm industries etc Total cost with cement for posts, wire & staples about £2.00 /metre. If you can't get close to the hedge, bear in mind a rabbit can jump up to 3 feet with a run up. Any more info give me a ring Greg HAYLE FC
