Umbro 5's Bristol

Recommended Posts

If anyone is intersted Fort XI did not qualify for Wembley :(

Came so close, finished second in our group, but only the five group winners and three best runners up went through to the quarters...we were the fourth best runners up.

Was absolutely gutting because we believe we had a really really tough group..the only team to beat us went on to win it quite convinvcingly and were absoultely quality! Had one Algerian guy who was amazing on the ball, apparantly they lost in the overall final at Wembley last year!

How did the other Cornish sides fare?

Firstly, well done to all the Cornish Sides.

Having returned home late this afternoon I can confirm that we (Perranwell) came 3rd in our qualifying group winning 2 and losing 2.

Scratch United who were by far and away the youngest team there drew 1 and lost 3.

I didn't get a chance to watch JFC but I don't think they managed to register any points.

The overall standard was very high and the event was run superbly with excellent facilities.

Hopefully, we'll get another shot at it next year :)

Guest RM Sec

I didn't see the other Cornish sides but Scratch Utd were agood young side and I hope that they are playing for teams a a high level.

Royals FC (Royal Marines) were in the 3rd 4th place play off and were beaten in extra time, the 3rd team go to Wembley.

The Southwest leg of the Umbro fives have 3 teams going to Wembley 1 from Plymouth (Lakeside) and 2 from London(allegedly??).

I agree with CB84 on the standard and organisation

my team jfc in my own opionion had the easiest group and the standard was not that good in it but some how we still managed to lose every single game :clapper: but we all left happy as we had one hell of a good game

after watching the nearly all the other team i can honestly say fort xi really were the second bext team there they were just very unlucky to be in the same group as a team that had an ex french prem league player playing for them i would say the team but i really cant not spell it as i am think as s**T

now stu yetton was playing for one team that qualified for the wembley final which will be held in november will be allowed to play....if he is contractred should he have played anyway??not s**t stiring just wondered

also well done scratch united very very good side and all there players are 16 was great to see :clapper::clapper: :clapper:

Have to say I was absolutely gutted with how hard our group was and if it wasn't for the 2nd best 5 a side team in the country and losing to them 5-1, with an ex Marseille player then we should have been there or thereabouts. Their side was quality. Their top scorer had 9 goals, 6 of which were backheels.

Was another good day out and the whole tournament flowed well, was overall proud to be 4th best runners up with the strength of our group and to miss out by only 2 goals was one of the worst feelings but the night out winning in the casino and putting coffee up tms no9's nose made it pick up.

Again well done to all teams who took part. Hopefully it'll be 3rd time lucky for Fort XI. :c:

RM Sec, the winners I know are from London as they missed their local heats due to a holiday so decided to enter the South West competition. Unsure about the other side, maybe Tms No9 could answer the other one as they were in his group?

Come on bush if you're gonna sh*t stir and not congratulate like the rest then don't bother.

If you were interested and to agree with Number 10, only 3/8 players that played this saturday played last saturday. Myself in goal, Andy Van and Oli Deadman.

Taken a while to catch on but 5 and 6 aside national tournaments getting really big now and good to see so many cornish players having a crack, good way of testing yourself against other regions if your not fortunate to play fa vase or cup. We (Bike Chain) won the region out right and the days (and nights) out at Hackney and Wembley Arenas where better than anything we have down here. Our Finals were televised on sky sports, we were seeded because of our previous tournaments. Well beaten in the semi`s by the team that won the final, £5,000 prize money and played Dream Team of Shaka Hislop, Jermaine Defoe, Jermaine Pennant, peter Crouch and Ashley Cole was what they won. Top 4 in the uk out of over 5000 teams not bad for cornish side, and the after tournament bash mingling with pro players and page 3 girls wasnt bad either. Team photo in the west briton with my arm over jo guests shoulder wasnt flavour of the week with the missus though. Didnt need London street map for night out, Rappo knew Soho like the back of his hand. GOOD TIMES.

Good luck to all that have a go
