It’s a very emotive issue I’m afraid, with no easy answer.

Looking at the more environmentally friendly solutions first. Fencing around pitch, however to be long term effective it should be dug in the ground with a return underground of around a foot.

Try clearing their home habitat, ie. scrub or brambles to drive them out of the area. Often they return to the same scrape as they scent it, you could try swapping these with turf outside the area..

If all friendly solutions fail, which I’m afraid they most probably will. Then numbers control is the answer, either ferreting or my preference, as “I believe “ it to be more effective, shooting. 

I’m a little embarrassed to say that I usually go straight to the final solution, as I’ve waisted so much time and money, trying to do the right thing.
