Liskeard u14 Girls win South West Regionals and now move on to National Final

Recommended Posts

After completing an undefeated league seaason and winning the county cup for the first time ever we competed at the South West Regionals at Bristol on the weekend. We competed against the top team from six other counties that made up the south west region in one day league formaat with everyone playing each other once and the team with the most points progresssing. We won by five points over our nearest rival and sewed it up with a game to spare which is an amazing achievement.

We now go on to the national finals this Sunday at Pride Park. we are now rallying around trying to raise funds to get the girls there as we never thought in our wildest dreams we would make the national finals so couldn't plan ahead. If anybody knows of any company that would sponsor us or let us have lend of a mini bus could you please get in touch, my number is 07884420974.

We are really looking forward to representing the county this weekend and hopefully doing Cornwall proud.

Just to let you all know the girls put in an amazing performance at Pride Park but sadly that wasn't enough as we lost to Southampton 3 - 1, who are now the National Champions. We kept the game at 0 - 0 until the last kick of the first half when a cross come shot looped over everyones head and in at the far post, which was heartbreaking as our keeper hadn't had a save of note to make before that and the girls deserved to go in level. Our girls didn't give in though as within two minutes of the restart we won a penalty which we put in the back of the net to level the game, this was the first and only goal Southampton have coneeded in the regional and national round of the competition. Then sadly in the last ten minutes Southampton came on strong and got two goals making the final score 3 - 1.

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of everyone at the club to thank everyone for their support this last week and to thank the following organisations who helped us get to nationalss, KRP Electrical Limited, Looe Community School, The Zone Youth Enquiry Service, The Lions Club of Looe, Liskeard Town Council and Ginsters.

The girls are going to be working hard to get back to Nationals again next season and hopefully next year go one better.
