ECPL Premier Division

Bere Alston United 2 Morwenstow 1

I'm not sure if Morwenstow had draughted one or two in on the night, but to be fair (apart from Torpoint) they were the best side we have faced all season and we were slightly fortunate to come away with all 3 pts.

Morwenstow took the lead after 25 minutes from the penalty spot after a driven cross hit Marcus Pethick on the arm. No complaints about the pen or going 1-0 down as it was no more than Morwenstow deserved up to that point, with

Sam Martin having earlier kept us in the game with a remarkable double save

We drew level just before the break when this time a driven cross fro Dan Pethick was deflected into his own net by the Morwenstow centre half.

Morwenstow again had the lions share of possession in the 2nd half hitting the bar twice and forcing Sam Martin into another fine save, whilst the Morwenstow keeper pulled off two fantastic saves to deny Darren Smalley and Dan Pethick respectively.

With a draw looking more and more likely, Bere substitute Dan Follett hit a stunning 30 yarder into the top corner with the Morwenstow keeper rooted and in the closing minutes Mike Curtis weaving run and shot almost brought Bere a third which would have been harsh on Morwenstow, who, as stated earlier, were the better side on the night.

Such is the ups and downs of football as there have been a few occasions this season when we have arguably been the better side and lost.

Two more games to go and still hopeful of repeating last years 5th place finish.
