Hayle v Newquay

Recommended Posts

What a great performance by Hayle today and a good game for the neutrals i would think. Newquay arrived with the drums going and flags galore and at the end of the game nothing could be heard. All in all Hayle were well worthy of their win even playing the last 20mins or so with 10 men. 5 great goals in an end to end game but well done Hayle and bring on whoever in the next round.

Love to all our pals down at Hayle... cracking game for the netrual agreed but not exactly a match report is it ?

Newquay fans arrived in numbers as usual an hour before kick off, and this time just as a reminder of what visiting fans look like, Hayle even took a few pics of some of the gathered Newquay Loyal prior to the match. Just 3 flags for us as the fishing net behind the goal probably wouldn't take the weight of any more. Nice to see the young lad in a green shirt put up some small Hayle/England flags (he needed a bit of help so we kindly assisted him with his clothes pegs). However, he may have got a small ticking off as he 'borrowed' the official Carlsberg flag to add a bit of green colouring to the proceedings.

Hayle were gifted the first goal after just 5 mins when a Sam Hunter clearance (pass) fell straight to a forward who could hardly miss. Unfortunately, Luke Payne in the Newquay goal had to be taken off injured after damaging his shoulder in trying to make the save. Newquay went into self destruct mode and presented Hayle with a second shortly after the delayed restart, no one would have been surprised if the home side hadn't racked up a cricket score at this point. The visiting fans continued tha banter amongst themsleves, not through boredom, it's just that there were no home supporters. Still we were enjoying ourselves and some quality comments that cannot be repeated on a family forum were exchanged.

Dean Blatch made way for the returning Jake Hartigan - that is returning from an all-inclusive 27 meals a day, all you can drink, 2 week cruise. The drum was banged, the fans chanted and the players appeared to respond. It was difficult to tell how long had been played, as every Hayle throw in, free kick and corner were all subject to time wasting, it took one Hayle forward 30 seconds to walk from the 6 yard box to the corner flag and then another 20 secs to decide which Newquay defenders head he should place the ball.

Andy Morris got The Peppermints back into the game on the half hour mark (I think) Soon after, Newquay were denied one of the most obvious penalties in the history of the game, just how the very yound ref failed to give it beggers belief. Ozzer tormented down the right with his usual 29 step overs when just 3 would send most defenders on their backside, and as usual he failed to deliver the crosses when the numerous chances arose. Half time 2-1.

Scott Palmer started the second half for the injured Ozzer (too many step overs hurt his feet) and within minutes showed why he is still one of the best strikers in the SWPL. 30 yards out, Scotty gathered the ball, dropped his shoulder, cut inside and unleased a superb left foot strike into the top corner, keeper no chance. Newquay should and could have gone on the win the tie but full credit to Hayle, they came fighting back. At this stage, the Drum most have woken some of the locals as some freeloaders appeared by the clubhouse, doubling the home support to about 24. Now at 2-2, Hayle sensed some urgency was required and the ball was returned super fast for the throw ins, free kicks and corners were taken with haste and eventually the lead was restored with a quality lob from the edge of the box over the advancing 16 year old keeper.

The lino was enjoying the comments from those in the stand, even the one about the home bench having him on a string, his flag went up everytime Newquay ventured forward (couldn't have been Jake, he was too slow). Hayle were down to 10 men rather harsly we thought, as nothing challenge saw a second yellow for the poor lad, he cam and sat in the stand and enjoyed the banter for the rest of the match. Newquay failed to make the extra man count as Hayle put the shutters up, although we did hit the woodwork late on. Hayle deserved the win, mainly due to the fact that Newquay were bloomin awful for the first half hour, still the travelling fans went home fairly happy, knowing that Robbo & Middsy are back for the Vase next Sat, Hammy for the Millbrook match and Macca suspension is nearing its end.

Lucozade anyone ?

I think the lino,s flag went up everytime because some of the newquay players seem to have a problem understanding the offside rule. From where i was standing in the 2nd half it was obviously offside every time i think you will find its all about the timing and you got it wrong.I hope theres no sour grapes or anything but you could have done with some of your massive support as you make out to add to your teams effort on the pitch. Better luck next time, this time the best team won quite easily.

Can't see the report on the Hayle website yet, look forward to reading it. Hope the piccies taken can be emailed asap. No sour grapes from us, Hayle deserved the win, Newquay were piss poor for the first half hour, after that it was an even contest, even when you went down to 10 men.

Huge respect to everyone at Hayle for all they have acheived at the club since the fire earlier this year, the facilities for players and officials are a credit to you all.

Best wishes for the rest of the season, except when you visit Mount Wise of course.

We all have different opinions about the game and reasons and explanations why things went well or not so well. My view is that for the first 15 minutes or so Newquay were dervedly 2 -0 down and were lucky not to be further behind as our defending in the first part of the game was pathetic. Our goalie Luke did get injured but young Ryan Barnes has played for us before and in fact played last week and in our previous game against Hayle on the opening day of the season, so no complaints there. Dean Blatch got injured after 25 minutes and was replaced by Jake Hartigan. Newquay started to settle down and Luke Weldhen missed two very good opportunities. Andy Morris hit the post with an header from a corner and five minutes later Morris thumped home a left foot drive again following a corner. At half time we should have been out of the competition but more by luck than anything were still in it. 5 Minutes into the second half and Newquay were more than in it when Scott Palmer a half time substitute for Orrin Crowle unleashed an unbelievable left foot volley that went in at the far corner. 15 minutes later Newquay's best move of the game saw Luke Rigby drag his shot horribly wide from 8 yards out. Matt Shiels then scored from a clever lob again with the Newquay defence looking very uncomfortable. Chris Wolstencroft was given a harsh second yellow for a tackle from behind with 20 minutes to go. At this point Newquay should have played with their heads and not their hearts but unfortunately gave the ball away with too many long balls and also getting themselves into offside positions. However I would also like to give the Hayle players great credit for the way they played in showing us how to hold onto the ball. Matt Shiels is a master at this. Hayle were worthy winners on the day, but I felt it was a missed opportunity for Newquay having got back into the match. Good luck to our victors in the next round.

Cheers Dan, much appreciated. the 5 pictured are, Judge, Everton dave, Ex-Lino, Darren without nickname and Big Steve... these are the ones who posed, plenty others out of shot, about 20 or so in fact.

I thought Jimbos' write up was a copy of mine at first but perhaps mines got a tad more detail.

Thanks again to all our pals at Hayle, we know you love us :P
