mullion v falmouth town

Recommended Posts

mullion welcomed back local boys and ex-mfc players alex sharkey and matt fox when they took on falmouth town at clifden parc in this weeks league encounter!!

the game was played in hiddeous crosswinds which didnt make things easy but it was an entertaining afternoon right from kick off

with town the first out of the changing rooms took control of the first 20mins as mullion struggled to get into the game.

town nearly took an early lead right from kick-off as a through ball beat the defence but the attack was ruled offside

mullion finally settled down and began to create some chances, the first from a poor goalkick that was picked up by chris ensink who played a neat first time pass through to dan stidwell who slotted past the keeper only to be denied by the post,

both teams continued to play good football but on the 30min mark town were awarded a soft penalty from ben tremaynes tackle in the box,but town duly tucked away for 1-0!!down the other end rob careys 20yrd strike was pushed onto the bar by keeper mark rose!!it wasnt long before the visitors made it 2-0 when a long keepers kick found the town striker who took it in his stride and lobbed advancing keeper jason kitchen!!

mullion got their heads up and started playing some good football(to quoate kevin richards-they looked like brazil in red).

matt fox got his name on the scoresheet when ensink won the ball and found stidwell who flicked on for fox to cooly slot past the keeper for 2-1,just before half time struck carey felt the need to go on one of his mazey runs starting from near the corner flag beating 4-5 town players before ending up on the edge of the 18yrd box to shoot and score!!

the 2nd half was a much tighter game with not many clear-cut chances in front of goal only a few goal mouth scrambles at either end!!the last 20mins the game opened up again with both teams gettin forwards well, mullion took the lead for the first time whe a long ball from sharkey found stidell who shrugged off two defenders to volley a bouncing ball into the bottom right hand corner, most of town chances went begging as there didnt seem to be any composure in front of goal with shots that didnt trouble kitchen going wide and over, towns best chance of the 2nd half was a 40yrd freekick wich was struck with brillance only to be denied by rattling the crossbar,

stidwell got his 2nd of the day to make it 4-2when carey was awarded a penalty after being clipped inside the box, once again a soft penalty but think the ref wanted to put right his earlier penalty decision of town,a good penalty right in the corner but could of been got to if rosie had longer arms as he went the right way!!

another great game probobly the toughest opponents under alan carey so far!!

well done both sides for another entertaining afternoon at clifden!!!
