Newquay 0 Hayle 2

Recommended Posts

A good game of football against 2 evenly matched sides in difficult conditions saw Newquay suffer their 3rd consecutive defeat. Newquay started the brightest and Jake Hartigan shot tamely at the keeper from only 5 yards out. Scott Palmer then did brilliantly to win a 50/50 tackle against the Hayle keeper but with an empty goal in front of him he shot wide. Hayle looked dangerous from set pieces and the expert delivery by Wayne Quinn. Ian Chatfield made a good save shortly before half time to deny the Hayle centre forward. 15 seconds into the 2nd half Scott Palmer burst through the Hayle defence and with only the keeper to beat unleashed a terrific volley that the kepper brilliantly turned over. Hayle had a goal disallowed when Chatfield punched the ball into his own net but the linesman had already flagged for an infringement. Newquay went straight up the other end and Luke Weldhen found himself in an identical position as Palmer earlier and his volley was this time pushed around the post. Luke Rigby then shot into the side netting after a mazey dribble down the right. Hayle took the lead 15 minutes from the end when Robert Toon headed in powerfully from another excellent Quinn corner. Newquay pushed men forward in a desperate bid to salvage something from the game and a quick break away ended with Chatfield making a wonderful save from the Hayle forward. Hayle made the points safe when another quick break ended with the right winger firing in at the near post. The game played in very good spirits and we wish Hayle best wishes for the rest of the season.
