Guest Urban Spaceman
with gretna resigning from the scottish league, in this case of doing too much too fast this could be seen as a lesson to all clubs. especially with truros ambitions
Xembla
Indeed! And maybe that's why slowing down, not going full-time professional next year, scaling back plans and commitments was merely prudent, and not the beginning of the end or a sign of the apocolypse. Pablo
Yes, Xembla agreed. But there is a slight difference; Gretna made it to the top. One could be excused for thinking they should have survived, they didn't of course and it wasn't all down to Brookes Mileson. Gretna failed in the main because of it's support. Not lack of; as the town did get behind the club initially. The real problem was there just isn't enough supporters in Gretna. The club was unsustainable because Gretna is basically a village. We can look at Histon in the conference, what a great job they are doing there but again; Histon is a village not dissimilar in size from Gretna. They could possibly survive in League Two as maybe could have Gretna but that's their limit. Neither team could go further. It's a great shame about Gretna FC I hope they can reform and rebuild but I doubt it. As for Histon and other clubs with similar ambitions; there are limits. Truro City? Yes it's possible for them to reach League Two, maybe, but any further than that would cripple the club. Take a look at Accrington Stanley. Accrington compares in size with Truro, more or less but they will never reach the Championship because they don't have the necessary support, they never will. If they were to ever get into League One they would get no further than halfway and most likely it would be a one-season wonder. Every football club should want to better itself but it must know it's limitations.
