Graham Martin
A resounding success for Cornish Clubs in the 1st ever season of the SWPL. Clubs appear to be frightened of taking promotion though to the next level because of increased travelling costs in the Western league which is seen as a predominately Bristol based league. BUT - what if every Cornish Club that finished top of the SWPL in the next 5 or 6 years took the promotion on offer - we could turn the Western League around and shift the balance from Bristol back towards the true Westcountry. In a few years we could have Saltash, Bodmin, Falmouth, Liskeard, St.Blazey & Launceston in the Western Premier - that would shift the balance - and give a good amount of local derbies as well. Their places could well be taken in the SWPL by Wadebridge, Porthleven, Penryn, Penzance, Newquay & a few others. For years and years Cornish Clubs have been playing 'below their true level' as has been seen in various Cup matches when a Cornish Club winning against an alledgedly higher level side has been described as an 'Upset'. But we know its not an upset and Cornish Clubs deserve to be playing further up the 'step' level than they are. So, come on Cornish Clubs - grasp the nettle and take the step up. If everyone does it then we can move the emphasis of the Western League from Bristol back towards 'Gods Country'.
Graham Martin
PS I forgot to mention that the Devon teams in the Western Premier would love to see this happen as well.
