LIONS WIN TRICKY OPENER WITH ST ERME   NEWLYN LIONS FC 3-2 ST ERME

Another eventful battle between two rivals who battled last season for the title with Lions gaining the bragging rights on the opening day of the season, in this entertaing duel. Lions should have taken the lead after dominating the first 15 minutes, with a controversial offside decision, which left the the spectators on the sidelines baffled. Seemed after the dissalowed goal, St Erme capitalised and put pressure on the home side, which lead to a scrappy goal off a corner, deflecting into the near post and off the defender. 1-0 could have been 2-0 if it wasnt for a great  goal line clearance from the lions captain Leigh Allen before half time.

Second half saw a determined Lions performance which lead to a goal within 5 minutes, some great footwork from Toby Angwin on the right side squaring it to Chas Pearce to stab home, to make it 1-1, Lions then pressed with more attacks but were strong at the back, and it paid as Toby Angwin broke through with the St Erme defender taking him down resulting in a stone wall penalty,  for the Player to pick the ball up and smash it into the top right corner. 2-1. Lions kept the momentum and from a dangerous set piece MOM Ryan Ladd headed home a powerful header, hitting the underside of the bar with 20 mins left, Erme pressed, to get back and was rewarded by a late consolation goal with seconds left.

Ref said it was an entertaining game to watch. Well Played Lions showed that we have a great team spirit in the squad . Scorers : (Charlie Pearce), (Toby Angwin Pen -Assist x1) (Ryan Ladd MOM)
