after the match on 30/08/52, falmouth had beaten st blazey 4-2, the referee mr j.taylor reported that his ear had been twisted by a spectator. the incident was reported to the swl disciplinary committee.

on the 29/11/52, torquay united reserves were winning 7-1 at home to newquay when with 20 minutes left, the referee abandoned the game. torquay won the replayed game 3-0.

on several occasions in the 1950s a white ball would be introduced, mostly in evening matches.

in their season and a half as a swl club, ilfracombe town reserves lost all 25 away matches played.

in 1953/54 the trinidad national team played three games against cornwall. at st austell on 26/09/53 they beat the home side 6-3. on 30/09/53 at falmouth they won again 4-2 and on 03/10/53 at penzance they fought out a 1-1 draw.

in a time when attendances would quite often reach four figures, on 29/12/56 bodmin drew 1-1 with plymouth argyle in front of only 40 spectators. the referee blew up five minutes early because of the atrocious weather. on the same day in a swlc game newquay were winning 5-2 at saltash when with the agreement of both teams he blew the final whistle after 83 minutes. the bugle vs falmouth game was abandoned at half time.

the first competitive competitive cornish game under floodlights took place on tuesday 02/04/57 when st blazey beat camelford 9-0.

st blazey followed a national trend of playing floodlit friendly games in 1957/58. exeter city xi, weymouth, st lukes college, plymouth united, i.s.s.a. and plymouth naval command provided the opposition.

in the fa amateur cup cornish clubs competing included looe, camelford, nanpean rovers, st just, burraton, liskeard athletic, bugle, st austell, saltash united, newquay, wadebridge town, roche, bodmin town, st dennis, helston athletic, mullion and mousehole. st austell reached the 3rd round but lost 0-4 at kingstonian in 1955/56.

on 19/04/58 in the swlc final at truro, an electrical fault caused a fire to break out in the back of the stand during the first half. it was put out by a spectators cup of tea!

several teams played two games on the same day with two teams. on 19/01/52 plymouth argyle won 4-1 at st austell while their 'a' team won 4-3 at newton abbot. on 28/02/53 argyle won 8-4 at st austell and lost 0-2 at barnstaple res. barum did the same on 28/03/53 but lost 2-4 at home to wadebridge and 2-6 at saltash. on 05/05/56 argyle won 3-0 at penzance ruining the champions unbeaten home record while their normal swl team hosted falmouth at home park and won a drab game 1-0 in front of 169 fans. in 1959/60 on 05/03/60 argyle fielded two teams and won both games 3-0 at bodmin and 5-1 at wadebridge.

before the start of 1958/59 season only one player had been sent off in the swl.
