Julian Chenery
MATCH REPORT Edgcumbe 0 St.Stephens Borough 2 The top two teams in the Premier Division met for the first time this season both aiming to retain their 100% starts to the season. Borough had the perfect start with Dave Wilkinson running onto a through ball from Stuart Fort who neatly converted past the diving keeper on 3 minutes. Borough had the opportunity to increase their lead five minutes later when Fort was through on goal with only the keeper to beat but was only able to force a fine save from the keeper. Another good chance for Borough saw Edgcumbe clear off the goal line from an Andy Wright close strike. Edgcumbe then asserted more pressure and came back into the game although they were unable to get a clear chance at goal and were restricted long range efforts. The second half saw Edgcumbe start the better team as they began to chase the game and find that all important goal. Borough's defence stood firm as Edgcumbe squandered several chances to get back into the game. With twenty minutes to go Dave Wright replaced striker Stuart Fort and made an immediate impact causing Edgcumbe’s defence a problem with his pace. With 15 minutes left on the clock Dave Wright ran onto a through ball 35 yards out and out pacing the keeper to the ball he slotted it past him. The race was on then to make sure the ball went into the back of the net as it slowed up on its journey to the goal line. Dave Wilkinson won the sprint and slid the ball over the line for his second of the game. The last fifteen minutes saw Borough regain control of the game and see out the 2-0 victory. The contest as always between these two clubs was played in an aggressive manner but the quality of both teams was plain to see.
