Newquay 1 v 0 St Day

Leon Holland scored after 20 minutes, a far post header after great work from Luke Wheldon and jack Hunter.

A blood and guts game with little goal mouth action and lacking quality at times but no doubting both teams determination to win ! Merrikin made a great double save late on to take us to our highest league position in years. Newquay join Illogan in fourth place! Very early days so Im not getting carried away !

Well done ref.

Newquay : Merrikin, Darwent, Mayor, Weller, Harvey, Hawkey, Pfeiffer (Butterly), Jones, Hunter (Dingle), Holland (Rabone), Wheldon.

Subs not used : Downton, Jolly.

an old cliche but this was a game of two halves.

for the first ten mins st day dominated the play and were unlucky not to score. from then on the first half was newquays, we stood off them and let them play. all credit to newquay who took their goal well.

H/T 1-0

in the second half it was one way traffic, with newquay defending for most of it, with the odd burst forward that never really threatned the st day goal. st day should have at least got a draw out of the game but paid the price for their first half performance.

st day travel to st ives on saturday still looking for their first pionts of the season.

well done to neqwquay.

also the game was well officiated with one or two questionable decisions from the home lino, but that is part and parcel of the game and we fully accept that.
