Torquay United venture into Cornwall

Torquay United will be holding open trials for the Development Centre the club is opening at Truro College on Saturday the 10th, 17th and Wednesday the 14th of July

The Gulls are looking to find the best young talent in the area, and are opening the trials up to any players who want to come forward and see if they have the ability to earn a place in the new Centre.From the Development Centre’s the players who are excelling will be put forward to trial with the clubs Centre of Excellence.

The Centre will be based at Truro College and will train on Friday nights. Players who are successful on their trial will NOT be taken away from their club playing commitments. The Centre tries to operate in a way that compliments and adds to a players regular club football, as opposed to taking them out of that system. Any games arranged for the Centre will take place on the opposite day to local league matches to ensure there are no conflicts of interest.

The club is looking to build good relationships with club sides as they do excellent work in giving the players in the area matches and training every week. What it does want to do, though, is offer the more gifted and ambitious players a clear route towards getting into the world of professional football.

The games programme the Centre enters will see them face other Development Centres for Torquay United, as well as teams from further a field such as Bristol City, Cheltenham Town, Swindon Town and Notts County.

Trial Times (Saturdays)

Under 8,9 and 10s – 09:00am until 10:30am

Under 11, 12 and 13s – 10:45pm until 12:15pm

Under 14 and 15’s – 12:30pm until 02:00 pm

Wednesday

Under 8,9 and 10s – 06:00pm until 07:00pm

Under 11, 12 and 13s – 07:00pm until 08:00pm

Under 14 and 15’s – 08:00pm until 09:00pm

(The trials will take place on 3g rounded moulded studs or trainers only and players will be required to wear shin pads, and bring along a drinks bottle)

What to do now?

Torquay United Development Centre would like to ask club managers and schools to nominate players from their squads or school years to attend the trials. The qualities that the Development Centre will be looking for are: a good level of technical ability, a receptive attitude to learning and improving, and an ambition and motivation to develop themselves to play at the highest level possible.It is necessary for the coach or parents of the nominated player/s to contact us by Phone: Head Office on 0845 003 8388 to book on to the trials.
