It constantly amazes me how fast footballs move, you wouldn't know it but the first photo below was taken with a shutter speed of 1/400th of a second and the ball is nowhere to be seen, not even in the original full frame image. Now i know from experience that to freeze a moving ball so that you see no movement you need a shutter speed in excess of 1/640th of a second and I remember this ball coming in at a fair speed, but its rebound rate was phenomenal (it came off of the keepers boot by the way). So the next time you're screaming at your players for missing the ball / goal / header etc spare a thought for the speed that those little leather balls really move
