Newquay achieved their first win of the new season at the third time of asking with a resounding win over Wadebridge. With a strong starting line-up bolstered by Scott Palmer appearing in goal for the first time since Easter, Newquay made their intentions clear when Wadebridge 'keeper Jimmy Vernon was forced to make a save from David Rabone in the first minute. It wasn't long before Newquay were ahead, Shaun Lawrence won a free kick twenty-five yards from goal and with the opportunity seemingly gone, quick feet from Lawrence found Jay Tipton out wide and his deep cross was headed home by the unmarked Rabone at the far post.

Newquay were keen to press home the advantage and a smart move between Lawrence, Rabone and Luke Weldhen resulted in a slotted pass that Darren Roose lifted over the advancing Vernon to double the advantage with less than ten minutes on the clock. Newquay continued to put Wadebridge under relentless pressure and it continued to pay off, when another great move resulted in Lawrence squaring the ball to Rabone who hammered a low drive from 25 yards into the bottom corner. Within 25 minutes a fourth was added when Rabone completed his hat-trick,with Weldhen finding his angled run across the defence to break the offside trap, Rabone curled the ball into the bottom corner.

A couple of changes meant that some of the forward momentum was lost and when Adam Weller was caught on the ball, Wadebridge pulled a goal back after a smart finish. Newquay were then caught again when a clearance deflected into the path of a striker who was able to angle his drive past Palmer into the far corner to further reduce the deficit. Jimmy Vernon rolled back the years with a full-stretch save to deny Rabone another goal late in the first half.

Newquay reverted back to basics again in the second half and carved Wadebridge apart with an exceptional fifth goal, with a dozen passes resulting in Darren Roose driving his shot into the bottom corner with an excellent finish for his second goal of the game.

Good luck to Wadebridge for the season ahead.
