Mullion FC have kindly agreed to host the first anniversary of the Ron Curnow Memorial Trophy. Ron was a keen and active supporter of local football in and around the Lizard Peninsular, and in his memory ,the four team tournament, of which Ron had close contacts with, is scheduled to take place later this month. My Company SM Cleaning Ltd are also pleased to announce that for the second year running they will be the main sponsors of this tournament. For those of you, who like me, would like to attend and support the clubs involved, and keep Ron's memory alive, i list below the following fixtures: Tuesday 30th July Mullion V Lizard 18.45 KO @ Mullion FC Thursday 1st August St Keverne V Cury 18.45 KO @ Mullion FC Finals Day Saturday 3rd August 3rd V 4th 14.30 KO @ Mullion FC 1st V 2nd 16.30 KO @ Mullion FC The Guest Honour on Finals Day will Be Kaye, Ron's wife who will be presenting the trophy and medals to the winners and runner up. Mullion FC Press Release 23rd July 2012 “The Ron Curnow Memorial Trophy” In Recognition of the late Ron Curnow’s contribution to Junior Football on the Lizard peninsular and beyond, Mullion Football Club have organised a “round robin” football tournament. The clubs invited to play hold a very special place in Ron’s heart, and the clubs themselves have been so keen to take part in what is to be an annual event to keep his memory alive. The fixtures are as follows : Tuesday 24th July Lizard Argyle V St Keverne KO 1830 Thursday 26th July Mullion FC V Cury FC KO 1830 The winners of the two games will play in the final at Mullion FC on Saturday 28th July 2012 KO 1600hrs Prior to this game 3rd place will play 4th Place at Mullion FC KO 1400hrs. The guest of Honour on the Finals Day will be Ron’s Wife Kaye, who will be presenting the trophy to the winning side. The trophy and medals, have been sponsored by SM Cleaning Ltd, whose director is Stuart Massey, who was co manager with Ron during Cury’s glory years, reaching the Junior Cup for the first time in their history. Stuart who is now head coach at Mullion FC said “ he was thrilled to be part of a football tournament, in memory of his dear friend Ron, and went on to say that he knows that Ron would have endorsed such a tournament in his memory that keeps Junior Football very much alive on the Lizard Peninsular. Deepest Sympathy goes out to Kaye and Family, for a tragic loss of one of the worlds nicest guys in Ron Curnow. I was proud and privileged to be associated with Ron during our sucessful years at Cury FC, and to this day i will never forget how proud as punch Ron was when he represented Cury at the pre match dinner prior to our Junior Cup Final appearence at the hotel in Penzance. His knowledge of local football was incredible, and him and i spent many a friday night on the phone discussing team selection for the following day. I am so sad that i cannot attend the funeral today, but Ron, you will be in my thoughts RIP. I believe that there were mutterings around benefit match in aid of Ron, and therefore to say more than happy in helping organise this , perhaps Cury old boys v current ?
