allforone1889
Truro City booked another away trip to Welton in this one sided FA.Cup match against Barnstaple at Mill Lane on Saturday, in all fairness the game was quite competitive until midway through the first half when the Barnstaple keeper was red carded. Travelling fans of art it wound 150 saw City start strongly and only a flying save from Draper denied Gosling a early goal, but it was young City keeper Jason Chapman who pulled off the save of the match denying Barnstaple what seemed to be a certain goal. City hit back hard and on twenty one minutes hit the bar with a rasping shot from Kevin Wills, within four minutes City did take the lead when a Gosling corner reached the back of the 18 yard area were Martin's shot caught a deflection on its way into the goal. The turning point came just afterwards when Watkins chipped over the advancing keeper only to be left poleaxed by Draper who recieved a straight red card and awarded City a penalty. Draper seemed to attempt to hit the referee but finally left the pitch only for the penalty to be delayed yet again as Barnstaple put on a sub without taking anyone off, however Yetton scored from the spot and netted again right on half time to send City in at half time 3-0. The second half saw City create several chances with Yetton completing his hat trick on sixty minutes before Reski adding a fifth on 76 minutes and a goal from Matthews right on time after great work from Skinner. allforone1889
After this weekends game there would be two more rounds before the first round proper in November, i'm sure Pidgeon could confirm Falmouth Town have the best record for progression. Graham Martin
Yes I have been to Bickland Park for a 1st round Proper match - I think it was against Peterborough, can't remember exactly when, I think Town lost 3 or 4 - 1. I hope someone [pidge] can refresh my memory.
Guest Postie Pidge
Falmouth reached the first round proper on 3 occasions. 1962/63 - Falmouth Town 1-2 Oxford United 1967/68 - Peterborough United 5-2 Falmouth Town 1968/69 - Falmouth Town 1-4 Peterborough United And there were also many 4th qualifying round defeat disappointments, some after a 2nd replay. Think youll find there will be 3 more rounds to win before you reach the dizzy heights of the 1st round proper but good luck anyway the FA Cup has and always will be the best and most exciting competition of em all (i remember the games at Bickland in the seventies against the likes of Yeovil Minehead etc in the 4th round qualifying absolutely brilliant )
