Updates Pirate FM CWFL

Recommended Posts

Just a quick update from the Pirate FM CWFL for interest of all who have been watching the league and recent results.

With the start of the 2016/17 Season producing some very high scorelines the Pirate FM CWFL has looked again at whether the league set up and format of one Division of 11 clubs is the best for all teams.

At the AGM and again at the start of the season all clubs voted on splitting to considering playing in two divisions of East and West to help with some of the travel difficulties experienced in a county wide league. Member clubs have recently voted again on whether a split to a Division 1 & 2 would help sustain the female game and keep players involved.

In both cases votes were collected from all 11 clubs and in both cases 10 clubs voted to stay as one league with a different 1 club voting for a split in each option. Member clubs therefore wish conclusively to remain as one division of 11.

During this process we collected some suggestions from clubs on any way the Pirate FM CWFL could change the playing format to help keep clubs going.

1. Variable format (eg 9v9) this had previously been considered and not voted on as a preferred option.

2. Cap on scoreline eg perhaps 9 goals then revert to a friendly as in youth football. This was looked at and as we are a competitive adult league within the women's pyramid system of promotion/relegation.

3. Reduce the playing time. Again with a league promotion/relegation where goal difference could be relevant this would be difficult to implement.

If member clubs had voted to change the playing format it would've been possible via an EGM. As things stand all clubs have been consulted and engaged in the decision making process and, hopefully with more promotion around the league and female football, we will be able to recruit more players to the teams that need it and female football will sustain and grow within the Pirate FM CWFL.

Any ladies players aged 16 years and over interested in joining a ladies team is encouraged to contact league secretary Denzil Lobb on 01872 552091 or email d.lobb48@btinternet.com and he will signpost them to the nearest club.

Very good work from what appears to be a good league that put their clubs first.

It would be really good to see more female referees also allocated to these games. Some are putoff by doing men's games, they could be allocated to the women's games like they are higher up the pyramid. Again, it's a case of generating that interest.
