Dave Deacon
The Launceston Cup Final will take place at Pennygillam, Launceston F.C this Sunday 10th May Kick Off 6.30pm. The final is nicely set up with a local derby ‘feel’ about it however the Bere Alston side consists of their Under 18 players who have not been with the club that long, and ply their trade in the DJM U18 Division but they will be hoping to claim the Launceston Cup for the club for the first time since 1963. ‘Gunny’ on the other hand last won the cup 23 years ago so their solitary cup victory in this competition is more recent and they will be hoping to equal Bere Alston’s tally of two trophies, they are currently lying in mid table security of the Duchy League Premier Division. In the Semi Finals Gunnislake faced another local derby across the Tamar in Lamerton and they triumphed with an early goal from Tom Hall and a late penalty won and converted by Jarryd Kelly. In the second semi Bere Alston outplayed Bude for most of the first half with goals from Jake McGowan and Ryan Richards giving them an interval advantage. Bude staged a bit of a comeback in the second half but despite some threats from indirect free kicks Bere won through. Guest gunniplayer
Gunnislake 1 V Bere Alston 0 AET Great match to be involved in. Bere Alston threw everything at us for the full 120 minutes in front of a fair sized crowd. Cudnt tell you what the goal was like as i was in the shower after having to be carried off with a knee injury. Bere Alston had 2 players sent off for 2 bookable offensives, which in my eyes were little bit harsh as there was the ball was there to won each time. The players of gunni would like to wish the Bere Alston youngters for the future and thank Launceston for the hospitality given to us for our semi final and final
