Newlyn NA 7 - 3 Camborne SOM

With this being Newlyn's fourth game in nine days, and a chance to go three points clear at the top of Mining 2, it was always going to be a massive game for the Crabs.

SOM started the brighter team, and Newlyn looked tired and off the pace. Just like they had earlier this season in the Jubilee Cup, SOM took the lead through an overhead kick after around twenty minutes. Newlyn finally began to wake up a little and created a few chances before the break, with skipper Louis Vanhinsbergh hitting the post. Still, like so many games this season, we went in at the break 0-1 down.

The Crabs began the second half playing at a much faster tempo and shut down every SOM player from the ref's whistle. Callum Mitchell won a free-kick and attempted to take it quickly with the SOM keeper tipping it over. With the ref not ready though, he ordered a retake which was actually hugely beneficial to the Crabs. Mitchell drilled it in low via a slight deflection to level the score. What followed was a crazy six minutes. Vanhinsbergh swept home with his left to make it 2-1, before Adam Strowger raced home to make it 3-1. SOM pulled it back to 3-2 with a deflected strike, before Strowger regained a two goal cushion with his second. 4-2. SOM hit straight back when a miss-hit cross looped over Pete Bainbridge. 4-3. Six goals in six minutes. Soon after it was 5-3. Mitchell's long free-kick met by Will Wiltshire's head for the goal of the game. Strowger completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot, before Vanhinsbergh grabbed his second in the final few.

A superb second half performance from the Crabs, who if i'm not mistaken, also guaranteed promotion to Mining 1 next year. Game was reffed very well throughout, and best of luck to SOM for the rest of the season (excluding our encounter on the last game of course).
