its got nothing to do with the penryn lino if you dont win the league its that perranporth are a better team than you. if your team is as good you like to think then surely you would have more chances to beat penryn the fact of the matter is you aint as good as you like to think perranporth for the league they deserve it.

Falmouth 6-2 Newquay

It was a tough game for an understrength Newquay side who made the journey to Bickland Park last night. Falmouth, with a line-up that was a lot stronger than the team that lost 1-0 at Mount Wise recently, took advantage of the opportunity with a convincing win in difficult weather conditions.

With goalkeeper James Merrikin playing for the first team, youngster Nathan Prentice deputised in goal. Newquay were also missing the core of their defence and midfield. Although Falmouth enjoyed the majority of possession in the first half, Newquay were able to compete early on despite the clear quality gap between players. Falmouth eventually took the lead when Ryan Harris expertly poked the ball home. The second goal quickly followed when Newquay failed to clear and Ben Stidwell was on hand to slot the ball past Prentice for a second. Newquay were able to keep Falmouth at bay until late on in the first half - a wayward cross was dropped by the unfortunate Prentice and Ben Stidwell was on hand to add his second and a third for Falmouth.

The opening moments of the second half quickly turned into a disaster for Newquay as they conceded an own goal in the opening minutes after Prentice had made an excellent save. The two goals either side of half-time left Newquay out of contention and on the hour mark Bobby Bryant expertly slotted home a first time volley from the edge of the area to put the game out of sight.

Despite the scoreline and difficult conditions, Newquay rallied and David Rabone struck a 40 yard shot that Jason Chapman managed to tip on to the bar when he looked well beaten, the ball droped to Michael Rabone and Chapman managed to recover to make a block, although he was so far in the net that he almost resembled an icelandic cod. The linesman didn't feel that the ball had crossed the line and the referee waved play on. (I can assure you the whole ball crossed the line, I was there!)

Newquay continued to press and a smart move down the left resulted in David Rabone winning the ball, Shaun Lawrence found Lee Smith who clipped the ball into the path of Michael Rabone who drilled a low shot under the body of the flailing Chapman. Newquay had soon added another, a low pass from Rabone put Orrin Crowle through on goal, he expertly turned the centre-back but could not beat Chapman who made an excellent low save. From the resulting corner, Crowle's curling cross was met by David Rabone who headed low and hard into the bottom corner with Chapman left helpless. 5-2. With 20 minutes left, Newquay pressed for another goal with Falmouth looking a little concerned about a comeback. However, any hopes were dashed when Alex Miller trapped the ball 30 yards from goal, touched the ball ahead of him and smashed an outstanding strike past Prentice to make the scoreline 6-2.

Well i have always tried to be fair and give my opinion as honestly as i can and the (goal) which never was did seem a harsh decision as the Perranwell strikers shot was pushed on to the post by the keeper and Matt Rose reacted the quickest and nodded in the rebound! he was on the penalty spot when the shot was struck so i would like to know who was offside?

And no not sour grapes as Penryn battled well, its just football! And Pete Davey was immense as was the keeper Chris Symons :c:

Excuses? Not sure I agree, I think it is a reasonable reflection... the better and stronger team won and scored a couple of great goals in doing so. Give it your best shot, feel free to contribute a report yourself and I will let you know what I think.

There have been some great Newquay/Falmouth battles in recent years and unfortunately last night was a mismatch.

i have been at perranwell for 3games so probably have no right 2 write this but im going 2 anyway. fair play 2 perranporth who will probably go on 2 win the league but linesman decisions ruin games and cost clubs points. it was a perfectly good goal, penryn had a player on the line when it went in!!!we will battle till the end but 2nd in the league from a bunch of players who dont get paid 2 play is a real achievement as oppossed 2 perranporth who throw money at players like its penny sweets!!!!!!they will have earnt the league by performances on the pitch so well done but the players r only there 4 the money!!!perranwell players enjoy playing 4 the club and have pushed perranporth all the way with no money, thats the difference!!!!

I can assure you that the ball didn't cross the line. Chapman tipped the ball onto the bar and fell backwards into the net, by the time the shot came in, he had recovered and was no longer resembling an Icelandic cod and parried the ball in front of the line. I can assure you the ball did not cross the line, if it had I would have awarded the goal.

Just showed how much Hayle needed the points tonights by fielding 5+ 1st team players plus Wayne Quinn. The second Lett,Shields and Quinn came off the game was completely different. Second half was 2-1 to the Saints. Cant wait to play them on a Sat when no 1st players are in......Could be a opposite scoreline!!

penzance loaded up against st.ives tonight, still lost 1-0!!

Just seen the team that PZ supposedly loaded up against St.Ives and it included Ludds back from a two month holiday and Mark Holland’s back from injury. I would hardly call that loading up!

Wouldn't it have been better to just say good result for St.Ives local boy. You don't need to try and make it sound any better.

Micheal Rabone and Postie Pidge I cant believe either of you are disputing whether it was a goal or not when from literally 4 yards and Chapman lying in the goal how you gave him the chance to even get close to the ball and then argue whether the ball went over the line or not is just sheer embarrassment. To be fair if I had missed a chance like that at the other end I would of subbed myself off and probably left the ground straight away.

Ha ha. Oh well, I won't be the first or the last to miss a chance, I was just relieved to score afterwards. If it was as close as follower states (4 yards) then I'd say I was in a pretty good spot to see whether it was in or not - some you get, some you don't. Still, it wouldn't have changed the game so it's not the end of the world.

Unfortunately we only had Pasty on the bench so taking the easy way out wasn't an option I'd even consider, that'd be pretty pathetic, don't you think?

PS. Postie Pidge isn't disputing anything, in fact, I don't think his message could be clearer!

not what the players on the pitch were saying to me!

like i was saying to a guy on the pitch, i would have been annoyed to be taken out for them to come in, penzance were a better team when we played them at home in my opinion!!

or the old men moaning that the "first teamers" werent worth the money when we were walking off to the changing rooms!!

i would like to defend the lineman i was in line with him and the perrenwell player was offside

i have played for perrenwell and penryn before and have friends that still play for both teams so i was watching as a neutral .penryn defended very well and beany was great on the day.over all perrenwell was the better team on the day but as you all know you dont always get what you deserve in football good luck to both teams

just want to say something about the st day v hayle game, there are no sour grapes from me, the two boys up front on tuesday letts nd sheils where outstanding, the movement and finishing i don't think even the best side in the league would have been able to hold them outstanding and the best i have seen and i have been around for along time. Well done to hayle fully deserved their win and quinny ran the game excellent all round performance. Just to say well done to all my mates at st day we won the second half 2 -1 neve say die attitude was excellent.

There's no point defending that linesman, your centre-backs admitted that the goal should've stood. I think everyone knows what he did.

The first team players you introduced didn't have any impact on the game at all.

In the last 12 games you mustered 24 points, Perranwell made 29. Football is about points, goals and fairplay. Not about disallowing goals and maintaining unbeaten runs.

Congrats

Ha ha, cheers Winno! I'm good thanks, how are things back at Helston? Obviously a bit gutted about losing to Falmouth (especially after so many good results against them in recent times), I was trying not to mention the first team thing because it'd be too easy and I thought it was a bit of a cheap shot... Although it would have fallen quite high up the list of 'excuses' that I made!

Strangely enough I thought Falmouth looked like a better side when we played them at Mount Wise earlier in the season.
