Guest Curnow
Hi guys Isn't is a crying shame that while other areas can boast one or two Stadiums, we in Cornwall don't have one! However the new CEO Kevin Lavery of Cornwall Council, made positive remarks about a Stadium for Cornwall during Tuesday’s Laurence Reed show on Radio Cornwall, stating that an opportunity in that area could be looked at. A petition has been set-up to get as many signatures as possible to show the new Cornwall Council as to the depth of support for a Stadium for Cornwall there is throughout the Duchy. We in Cornwall require a multi-functional Stadium for Cornwall! If you support this initiative you might like to sign the petition: Please sign 'Stadium for Cornnwall' petition! To sign the petition, you will need to enter your name, address and email address into the form provided. Once you have signed the petition, you will receive an email asking you to confirm your email address and that you wish to add your name to the petition, by clicking on the link your name will now be added to the petition. Cheers guy! :c:
Guest Sport Lover
Who would run and pay for this Multi purpose stadium? Where would it be located? Its all very well saying Cornwall "require" one but its got to be a money making venture otherwise its just a white elephant.
Guest The Judge aka RED OR DEAD
I applaud the sentiment of having a stadium for CORNWALL, but have a nagging doubt that a certain club not a million miles from County Hall, will want to use it as a home ground, thus saving the owner money by not building the one he promised. Build it and support it by all means, but it must not be for the benefit of one club over all others.
Tynan's_Dad
Out of interest, what sports do you suggest would be included, who would be able to use the facilities (i.e. only the best/elite or anyone), how often would it be used, etc.? It sounds like a good idea in principle but if it is something that costs a shed load of money and is only used a couple of times a year then there is no point. If it is to benefit Cornwall significantly and will be used regularly then great.
Guest Curnow
Petition doing well. 290 signatures to date! But we need more! As a multi-functional sporting venue it would not just be used for sports. It would also be a site for a Sports Academy for Cornwall. Also, used as a cultural venue, it would support tourism and the arts, hosting big concerts during the summer months and a museum for Cornwall. All this would mean employment for local people and bring much needed revenue into Cornwall. However, as usual the authorities will need convincing that the people of Cornwall want such a stadium. Do we? If so, please add your signature to the 'Stadium for Cornwall' petition! http://www.petition.co.uk/my_petitions.html
Martin Eddy
surely if a stadium were built you could have back up facilities for all sports in cornwall like medicine with the new penisula school for doctors at truro surely some of them would like to specialise in sport, physios etc. the list is endless this would take the pressure off treliske.surely most of the money could come from lottery funding as it would benefit all of the sports in the county.also admin,if they were all under one roof it would save on cost and resources.what about a small hotel.when teams visit the county the revenue goes to private hotels this way the money could stay in our county sport.you could also have concerts. just a few ideas lets not have all the negative crap please try and be positive it could be a good thing for the county. :drink:
Guest The Judge aka RED OR DEAD
I agree with all the above sentiments... but Truro City must not, under any circumstances, be allowed to benefit more than any other Cornish football club. It would morally wrong and I have yet to hear anyone deny that someone with Truro at heart, are behind this petition. Stadium for CORNWALL yes - Stadium for TRURO CITY NO. Build it at the Dragon Centre Bodmin, it is the centre of the county !
Guest Curnow
715 signatures so far! Keep her goin' guys and let's show the councilors of the new authority that Cornwall - and the people of Cornwall require a mulit-functional statium! Funding would to come from differerent sources - Public, private, maybe lottery? Objective one? Sponsorship? Who knows? A built in conference centre, top-class accommodation and the people who would be major tenants would provide funding/income. Postman Pat's 'post' shows just how multi-functional a stadium can be! The petition is merely a tool - some ammuntion if you like - to give the new Cornwall Council an idea as to the depth of support for such a project. Shout it loud and shout it proud! :yahoo:
