Big match this weekend for Cornwall Under 18's.

Recommended Posts

Cornwall Youth U18's travel to Chippenham Town FC to play Wiltshire Youth tomorrow [ Saturday 21st] in a match vital to both sides.

An outright win for either County will mean a place in the end of season final against the winners of the other group, probably Gloucestershire. A draw would give Somerset an outside chance but they would need to beat Dorset by more than three goals in their final match to be played on April 4th.

Cornwall manager, Tommy Matthews brings back into the squad Truro City's Liam Eddy.

Liam Sandercock / Bude Town is sidelined with a shoulder injury.

The current league table for Group A.

Wiltshire 3 - 2 - 1 - 0 - 10 / 4 = 7pts.

Cornwall 3 - 2 - 1 - 0 - 6 / 3 = 7

Somerset 3 - 1 - 2 - 0 - 7 / 4 = 5

Dorset 3 - 1 - 0 - 2 - 4 / 7 = 3

Guernsey 4 - 0 - 0 - 4 - 5 / 14= 0

So as i pointed out above, Cornwall could win the group or finish in third place.

Good luck to Tommy Matthews and his squad - let's hope they win and can finish top of the group. There are some very talented players in the squad.

Are you going to post a proper match report, David? It was a great result for Cornwall, and I for one would like to know what the team was, who came on as subs etc, and a full report.

Thanks in anticipation.

Can't give you much of a match report as I was a bit too pre-occupied to write down the detalis!

However, it's fair to say it was a fantastic all-round team performance. Our front two were a real handful, the midfield kept the tempo of the game at our desired pace and dominated critical areas, and our back five were compact and well-organised and handled a first half of pressure where we had to contend with the slope and the wind.

We had a game plan that the boys implemented brilliantly and had the belief that we were good enough to cause an upset. Wiltshire were rightly disappointed but gracious in defeat and were very congratulatory after the game.

We're waiting to find out whether we're home or away in the final, if we're home we'll start to make decisions as to where we'll play, nothing's decided yet. Probable date, Saturday May 2nd. If we're home your support would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for your good wishes, the boys did Cornwall proud!

Well done Tommy and your squad on a great result and it was nice to see two Newquay players in the squad.

Newquay certainly missed the pace and skills of Aaron Bicknell at Hayle - good luck in the Final wherever it is played.

The final will take place in Cornwall on Saturday 2nd May.

Venue to be arranged.

Opponents either Gloucestershire or Oxfordshire.

This coming Tuesday, Devon play Glouces. at Willand FC.

Next Saturday its Oxfordshire at Berks & Bucks.

These two fixtures will sort out our opponents.

Thanks to Tommy for his views on the match at Chippenham.

And also to Bude4.

If there is any more details required let me know. :c:

To be fair to Rob Rosevear, having selected him, we then let him play for Sticker rather than to sit on the bench all afternoon at Chippenham.

However, Bradley Wills withdrew from the squad on Friday. Therefore we did take a second keeper, in young Ben Hurst from Wadebridge Town Under 16's.

Rob has shown a great attitude towards being a squad member and will be involved when May 2nd comes along. :clapper:

Guest A LEGEND!

Devon have a well wider goal difference to the others and both Gloucester and Oxford must win as they have both lost as have devon but if they draw all three will be on same points and Devon have highest goal differnence at the momnet quite higher i believe too.

All i'm saying is 3 teams fighting for that spot one has played all their games but now have points on the board, pressure on gloucester we shall see. would set up a nice rivalry final if devon end up clinching it.
