Wendron 0-5 Newquay

Newquay romped to another emphatic victory in challenging conditions at Underlane, with David Rabone stealing the headlines with his second hat-trick against Wendron this season.

In challenging conditions, both sides struggled to make an impact early on, Newquay had plenty of the ball but did not create any clear opportunities and Wendron struggled to make an impact going forward.

Newquay finally created the first opening of the game after twenty minutes, a pin-point through ball from Matt Davis found Rabone who drove the ball over the bar from the edge of the box. Newquay looked more likely to score and finally carved out the opening goal when a deep cross to the far post was met by Rabone who calmly slotted home a left-foot strike from six yards. Newquay continued to create chances in the first half but were unable to add to their tally.

The second half was a completely different affair and the game changed in a matter of minutes. Some excellent football resulted in young midfielder Lewis Burgin threading a pass out wide to substitute Josh Harris, who slotted his pass across the six yard box and Orrin Crowle's goalbound strike was somehow kept out by the Wendron 'keeper. The following passage of play resulted in Wendron attacking via the left wing and the Wendron striker cut inside to drive a low shot towards the corner which bounced agonisingly wide after hitting the foot of the post. In response, Newquay crafted out another fine move and an excellent cross from Josh Harris was glanced home by David Rabone for his second goal.

Once Newquay had the two goal margin they were able to put significantly more pressure on the Wendron goal. Orrin Crowle hit the foot of the post after a low drive was missed by the Wendron goalkeeper and Lewis Burgin let fly from 25 yards, only to see his effort hit the crossbar. It wasn't long before Rabone had completed his hat-trick, great work out wide by Jay Tipton resulted in Rabone collecting the ball in the corner of the box and his right foot piledriver left everyone standing as it flashed past the goalkeeper to make the score 3-0.

Rabone was soon replaced by older brother Michael, who made an immediate impact when Orrin Crowle slotted the ball through and Rabone's first time left-foot strike took a deflection off the defender and looped into the bottom corner of the net. Rabone looked keen to add another in quick succession and when Josh Harris beat his man out wide and delivered a low cross, Rabone hit a first time left foot volley that cannoned off the crossbar to safety. Not to be outdone, Orrin Crowle added a fifth when a through ball from Shaun Lawrence was collected by Crowle just inside the Wendron half, he outpaced the Wendron defender and when the goalkeeper committed he slotted the ball home. There was still time for Tom Taylor to hit the post after the Wendron goalkeeper made an excellent save, Lee Hazeldine, looking for his first goal of the season, smashed the rebound over the bar with the goal at his mercy. Hazeldine immediately had the chance to atone for his miss and fluffed his lines when clean through on goal.

Newquay had James Merrikin to thank for keeping a clean sheet, he managed to make two excellent blocks late on as Wendron sought a consolation goal.

Man of the match - David Rabone

Attendance - 15

Holmans 3 - Portreath 0

Holmans deserved the win, they played some good football at times but we were really poor & lucky they only scored 3, they did score 4 ball went through the back of the net & the ref disallowed it, even our lino gave it but he got over ruled. Oh well, musn't grumble.

Back to the drawing board.......must do better.

St Day 0 -1 St Ives this was a tight game from start to finish with both sides squandering chances and the two defences on top of their game.

St Ives goal came from a set piece and this was the way they where going to break st day down as they where much bigger and stronger from this type of play. The cross came over from a corner to the far post where dave i think he's called out jumped me at the back post and headed in an easily with goal keeper having no chance. The game went too and fro with as said before chances at both ends but no clinical finishing so big challenges going in and for the life of me couldn't understand why a card wasn't shown on many occasions. Fair result in the end st ives shaded it but another great team performance from St Day the first time this season that Tasky had the same outfield 10 on display in a row.

Is Jay Tipton the Jamie Tipton who is currently suspended sine die by CCFA?

Good observations Pidge, but from what I understand there is nothing of any controversy to note here. It was discussed during the week with the CCFA and the small sum has been settled and Jay was eligible to play on Saturday. Coincidentally Jay played very well and picked up an injury that may mean that he won't be able to play again this season (although that is 7 games for us!)
