Follower
Just wondered what the criteria is to be selected for the full County squad, as the best player in Cornwall has never been selected to play for Cornwall. Can anyone clarify this please.
Dave Deacon
Which Cornwall team are we talking about here? Not that it matters really, because who can say who the "best player" is? What one person thinks, could be completely different to how others see it!
Guest Cornishdave1980
Who is this 'best player in Cornwall' who hasn't played?
Follower
Just wondered what the criteria is to be selected for the full County squad, as the best player in Cornwall has never been selected to play for Cornwall. Can anyone clarify this please Well Dave I think being voted Mangers Player, Players Player, Fans Player of the season at the treble winners is good back up for my recommendation. Having Premiership experience also helps this mans cause. I was merely asking why he has never received a County call-up?
Tommy Matthews
There isn't a full county squad anymore. They may play in a couple of friendlies but the senior team finished last season. That might be one answer!
Follower
But he hasn't received a call-up for the last three seasons and received one for the friendlies squad. I was wondering why this was?

Dawey
I think Sven's correct, you cannot play for the County team if you have previously held any kind of professional playing contract. For what its worth I personally felt that last season Sean Flynn was by far the most influential player in the Premier Division. When we played Bodmin last season the 2 best players on the pitch were the ex-professionals, which you would expect I suppose.
Dawey
Actually I must be talking nonsense because Danny O'Hagan was once a pro and i'm sure he's played for Cornwall, so maybe this has changed!

Ian Southcott
The ban on ex-professionals was in force when the old South Western League entered the Non Leahue Competition. There are numerous ex pros that have played for the County including the likes of Mark Rowe, Geoff Battams, Steve Nute, Glyn Hooper, Justin Harrington and so on.
