Guest Helston Patriot
Helston 1 - 0 St Day Jason Robertson In a nutshell; Not the best of games, strong wind, soft pitch & my tired legs. Even first half with Helston going 1 up from the tightest of angles. St day hit the post from 3 yards on the stroke of half time but other than that can't honestly remember them having any other clear chances the whole game. St Day no 1 was a busy boy. Best of luck rest of the season Well reffed by Mr Knowles Sure Bob will give his account of the game :c:
St Darren
St Agnes 0 - 6 Illogan Good side Illogan are, and fully deserved their victory. We had a man sent off for two bookings, and there were about 5 booked I think, in not a dirty game (apart from one iffy challenge!!!!) CCFA will be pleased with the ref's performance! cornishteddyboy
Your team would suffer as well if your top 3 goal scorers left all in one go. I am writing the match report at the moment. What was good to see was how many youngsters were playing for both Mullion and Penzance today. Bodes well for the future. kevin richards
Perranwell 2 - Porthleven 2 h/t 0 -1. Port edged the 1st half Perran the 2nd. Port should have put the game out of sight with the chances they had in the 1st half however, overall, a draw was a fair result. Porthleven scorers were Danny Williams & Dean Bray. Michael Rabone
Perranporth 3-1 Newquay Undefeated Perranporth met Newquay for the third time this season and this cup match proved to be an interesting and high-tempo battle throughout. Perranporth went ahead as early as the second minute when Gosling's corner was met by the unmarked Justin Andrew who headed home. Newquay didn't respond well and had to depend on some resolute defending and the impressive James Merrikin to keep Perranporth's attacks at bay. Perranporth had a series of free kicks around the box and were twice denied by the foot of the post whilst in search of a second goal. Justin Andrew opens the scoring with a header from seven yards Aaron Bicknell played a significant part in getting Newquay back into the game. Bicknell collected the ball and hit an outstanding strike from 25 yards that Butcher struggled to pick up, in the end Butcher adjusted and managed to tip the ball onto the bar. Jamie Tipton didn't connect with the follow-up and the chance to equalise was squandered. Newquay continued in pursuit of their equaliser and it wasn't long before a sustained period of pressure resulted in Bicknell beating two men a hitting a low half-volley from the edge of the area. Butcher appeared to have it covered and yet somehow he was beaten by the pace of the strike and Newquay were all square. Newquay started the second half brightly and looked to press home the advantage of having the elements behind them. The game turned on a significant moment minutes into the half, Newquay defender Adam Weller was caught in the face with an elbow, the referee allowed play to go on and Weller won the ball with a crunching tackle, however, the referee deemed that it was a tackle from behind and pointed to the spot, the ball was heading outside the area and the man was caught right on the edge. Gosling stepped up and duly converted an important second goal for Perranporth. Newquay rallied and had chances to get back into the game, Perranporth were showing signs of their pedigree but at times depended on the long ball a little too much. Mid way through the second half, Newquay were caught with men forward and a slick counter attack resulted in a low cross into the area, and although Andrew didn't connect fully with his strike, the ball went beyond the reach of Merrikin to put the game out of sight. Newquay had time to get back into the game, however, further missed opportunities meant that Perranporth were heading through to the next round. Congratulations to Perranporth who look certain to be the team to beat in this competition. Whilst the competitive nature of a local derby resulted in a tough battle on the pitch, both sides shook hands at the end and enjoyed a drink in the bar afterwards. Newquay will be pleased to see the back of Perranporth, despite the 2-2 draw at Mount Wise earlier in the season being only one of two games where Perranporth have dropped points. baggie
Portreath's goal scorers were J Buckley & A Buckley ( poss hand of god) . Yes Ludgvan are improving but are still quite poor, we on the other hand were just as bad, as extra time loomed, Alan popped up from a corner and bundled the ball across the line with a combination of chest & hand. Thats the first bit of luck we've had all season...you have to make your own luck I suppose Just want to pass on a get well soon to the Ludgvan supporter who slipped over kicking the ball back to me after it went out for a throw, he fell doing the splits & had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance. cornishteddyboy
Couple of things Can anyone fill in the couple of blanks that are missing. Attendance at Penryn v Holmans Surname of the Wendron goalscorer. Second thing is in the photo Mitch has posted. Where are the Newquay defenders? From the photo it looks like Justin Andrew is on his own, dropped off a couple of paces and popped it in.
Michael Rabone
You're right, CTB, Justin made a run from deep and managed to get free of his marker. Gosling drove his corner because of the windy conditions and Justin met the ball perfectly, excellent finish. Not a good way to start the game for Newquay - but you have to say, Perranporth are excellent at taking their chances and that is what has put them on a different level to the majority of Combo sides this season. isaac rosenberg
St Just 2 St Ives 1 This repeated the score and goal sequence when the teams met in the league match in November. St Ives, with the wind, scored early with a far post Chris Russell header. Neil Curnow's penalty just before half-time levelled, but the Tinners played the second half without the skipper. Sub Tim George deputised well. Stefan Smith hit the foot of a post, then put St Just ahead with a good finish past the advancing keeper from 20 yards. St Ives pressed forward and could have equalised five minutes from time in a goal-line scramble which included the ball coming back off the inside of the goalpost and being cleared. Then No. 11 shot inches wide from eight yards with the goal at his mercy. At the other end, a Chris Curnow free-kick thumped the St Ives bar after No 3 received a second yellow for a foul on the edge of the box. Good cup game, shame anybody had to lose. ood luck to St Ives for the rest of the season.:D
