Richard Chown Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Letter from Cornish Soccer Forum In 2005, Dave Deacon took the step to set up the original Cornish Soccer Forum (aka Old Faithful) it was the start of a fantastic community we have now discussing all things Cornish football. In 2006, I found myself sent to Iraq with the Army. I was first posted to Basrah Air Station were we had a few Internet terminals to send emails. The problem I found was that when I got sent out to one of our out stations called Camp Abu Naji in a hellhole called Al Almarah in the middle of nowhere.(Think the film Mad Max). I found that I would get the West Briton 2/3 weeks late from my family and some times they did not have all the results in them . So after getting rocketed, mortared and defending our base from nightly attacks from the enemy, I was able to logon to the Internet via Satalite phone for my allocated 10 mins a day (a bit frustrating on a dial up slow connection). The original Cornish Soccer Forum was a great assest to myself and other Cornish fooball supporters overseas . I even got my local Iraqi interpreter into Cornish Football. RC: "Good news Ahmed, I just logged on to the forum and Carharrack won today 2 nil mate, get in there my son" Ahmed: "Mr Chown, How did the St Day get on today?" RC: "Well Ahmed St Day lost 4 nil so happy days" Ahmed: "ALLAH AKBAR, ALLAH AKBAR!!!!! (God is great) Inshallah (Going Willing) St Day will be defeated again and Carharrack will take victory next week". RC: "Yes, Ahmed, Inshallah indeed" When I arrived back home to Cornwall on leave I thought of ways I could make the Fourm better and consulted a few of my friend's working in IT. We then created and through Dave's permission launched Cornish Soccer Forum 2.0 giving people better access and the ability to private message each other. Since then the Fourm has grown from strength to strength, now at 1800 members. There is some interesting personalities on here. For me one person who has stood out is The Judge still as in 2005 he has a totally dislike for Truro City and I think you need people like him for a balance. The ever controversial Isaac Rosenberg from St Just . Postie Pidge and Cornishteddyboy are ou resident stato's! One of the best loved posters Coopsie, with so much thought going into his posts you have to go and make a cup of tea before taking it all in. Through wisdom the respected Chairman. Then we have the "winder uppers" who can garentee to get people to bite, you know who they are. Sorry if I missed some people out too many to go through. To sum it all up with have a great community on here at the moment and it would be a shame for it to go downhill. Many of you know that the Admin (Myself and Dave Deacon) and the moderators Paparazzi, Postie and Spider keep a close eye on the posts to make sure nothing out of order is said and we want to keep it that way. Good news very soon we will have Cornish Soccer Forum 3.0 with much improved applications. I would also like to thank those who have donated to the site over the years. This has enabled me to keep the forum advert and pop up free. Members can still donate by going to My Controls at the top of page >>>Options>>>>Purchase Paid Subscriptions>>Then select PayPal. The only thing that has disappointed me recently is when I have had emails off individuals who do so much for Cornish football saying they no longer post on the forum. They have stopped posting on the forum as they felt they were just getting criticized and that is a great shame, I hope one day we get them back. I also had a respected chairman phone me up last week saying he was upset he lost a valued member of his club because of posts made on this fourm. That is not why the forum was set up! So please think before you post and remember that these people give up their time so we can play the game we love. All the Best and hope to see you all on my travels around Cornish football in the future. Again if anyone has any ideas to improve the site or compliants feel free to PM me, Dave or the moderators to discuss it. On behalf of myself Richard Chown and the Cornish Soccer Forum Team. Merry Christmas :c:
somersetspur Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Cheers pal, Same to you and all the others, who make the Forum possible.
Paparazzi Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 I have to agree with Richard here 100% we have lost a few good members because of the increasing amount of critising that goes on here, yes we can all read things wrong and take it the wrong way but sometime try to think what you are saying before posting, i myself very very often write a post and then before posting think of the critising i might get and then wipe it out and dont bother. I would love for this forum to grow stronger and stronger it is so valuable to us all for one reason or another, just think where else would you get the information on games, scores, goss etc etc without this? Would love to hear what the members suggest we could do to improve or what changes if any need be. Paps.
Coopsie Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Well if that's all you've got to say about my input on here, you can take the forum and shove it up your arse. Good on you Rich, Paps, Deacs et al. Keep up the good work and I'll go down to Argos to see if I can get some sort of sponsorship that will enable you all to get discount on kettles. :D
isaac rosenberg Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Thank you, Richard. The Lafrowda Woad Brotherhood and Mother will boil the head of a Zancer in your honour and consider holding a peripatetic sacrifice ceremony in Gwennap Pit if you are interested in attending. I have always considered Carharrack a great side, because in 1971 they climbed to third in my personal subbuteo league, but sadly they never recovered that status after my late grandmother tragically and inadvertantly crushed their right-winger to death under a jar of Horlicks while preparing, despite palpitations, for bed. May the peace that passes understanding be with you. Shantih shantih shantih....and a very merry Christmas to you too. :D
Deano Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Keep up the good work lads. Just on another level, i got banned from playing at my club for 4 weeks for something i said on here, so think before you post!!
Tom Trust Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 Yes, it's a great service with all the different characters putting their disparate points of view. It was a source of comfort to me when I got dumped out of the Vase Final broadcast and it is a valuable barometer of opinions. Also nice to hear that Richard got the Carharrack - St Day situation sorted in Iraq. I'd love to see Carharrack back in Senior football. Keep up the good work. Condiments of the seasoning to one and all!
Guest The Judge aka RED OR DEAD Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Dear Messers Chown and Deacon. With regard to your well chosed phrase 'There is some interesting personalities on here. For me one person who has stood out is The Judge ' I wish to pass on my deepest respects to those who created and supported this forum over the years. Whilst I may rub some people up the wrong way (they can't all be as wonderful as me), I have had many favourable comments and emails from the more enlightened football fans of Cornwall (and Plymouth). As long as there is a forum, I will continue to post what I consider, to be valid points. Everyone is entitled to thier opinions and to share them. However, the one down side to this are the unwarrented personal comments. By all means express yourselves but name calling is definately my bug bear. Heres to a wonderful Xmas (3 points at home v the Pub Team) and a happy new year (3 points away at Port 3rd Jan) Good will to all (well nearly all). The Judge.
Martin Eddy Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 the biggest problem you will always have is that only the sensible ones and isaac rosenberg will respond to this type of appeal(sorry rodney) the idiots will only ever come on here to stir up the pooh!! and i don't mean whinny.as with most organisations now, good people are hard to find.the small group mentioned do a fantastic job free of charge so please don't let a few idiots spoil it for the majority who thank and respect you for what you do. by the way rich having played for st day before they were always a bigger club than the hamlet down the road :smiley20:
Magic Mike Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 "THE FAT CAT" is always getting abuse on here!! makes me wanna post more and more on here!!! wouldnt be the same without the abuse and banter!!
Guest Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 I have to say Rich that you and all the admin chaps do a sterling job and long may it continue, Your 100% spot on about some of the people on here and it is a valuable source to all who use the forum Im so glad you did not write to much about coopsie and i agree it is always worth making a cuppa and having a few bourbons while reading his posts but they are great and he is a top fella (Still gotta have that pint mate) I use a few forums and know some people who run them and it is hard work which is all done in your spare time and not a paid job so please accept my thanks for all you folks do for us Much appreciated people and a merry christmas to you all :clapper:
Guest Ronin Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Ditto to all the favourable comments above Rich. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone PS - any chance of a Christmassy Smilie??
