Guest Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Germany 1 v England 2 Matthew Upson was voted man of the match Still not 100% sure about these friendly games because of injuries to top players but they go ahead and what a fantastic result
The Villains Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Germany 1 v England 2 Matthew Upson was voted man of the match Still not 100% sure about these friendly games because of injuries to top players but they go ahead and what a fantastic result Think you'll find that a lot of top players pulled out due to injury............. !!!!!! lets hope they DONT play on saturday, otherwise, it may be seen has they only want to play for their clubs, if its ONLY a friendly game. concur with the result.....
Guest Peppermint Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Well done to the much depleted England team last night. Capello is certainly proving to be the right choice. He has got the tactics correct and they seem to be playing as a team. Interesting to see a very bitter ex Scottish International, on Sky Sports News, still bleating about the goal that he thought wasn't a goal that won the World Cup for England. Bitterness and jealousy are an awful thing! After all the final score was 4-2 not 3-2!!!
Deano11 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 A fantastic result for England. and to be fair deserved as well. Who was the scotsman peppermint
Guest Peppermint Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Sorry Iamthebest but I only caught the last part of the interview but his first name was Frank - perhaps someone else saw all the interview and could let us know.
truros mr mourinho Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Fair play to England, they deserved there victory, but come on,did the Germans turn up.?They were pants. You can build the hype as much as you like, but if England meet Germany in a World Cup,quarter or simi final, I know where my money will be. As for the players that came in ,Upson,Wright-Phillips,Downing,Carrick and Bridge all had good games. When all the show ponies are fit,Ferdinand,Lampard,Gerrard,Cole and Rooney the others will fall by the wayside, thats why we wont win nothing. Somerset, "we won't win nothing". Thats a double negative, which means we are gonna win the world cup!!!! Think you would be happier if King, Jenas and Bent were all regular!? Good performance last night and a few staking claims for the future, pleased to see Capello proving me wrong...he must read the forum and got angry! Thought Bent was German MoM in 2nd half, the way he kept the ball away from the danger area was something to behold, he controls it further than most can kick it, hope Terry will watch a tape....CLEAR THE BALL MAN!!!! beat me to it gillo, dont bother to pick that ass bent,he cant even control the ball letalone shoot, germans best player bye far
somersetspur Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Can't see to many W.Ham players in the squad. Only Upson, and he will be at Spurs in January.
truros mr mourinho Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Can't see to many W.Ham players in the squad. Only Upson, and he will be at Spurs in January. why bring in west ham,i was just making a point that he is not good enough for england, perhaps is grandad was german, and he can then go and play for them

Guest Peppermint Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 There is no pleasing some people - seems a little harsh Somersetspur. Surely you must agree that England are now more tactically aware under Capello than the clown McClaren. They seem whatever the personnel available that they go onto the field well prepared and play as a team - as do the Under 21's and it was a great idea by Capello to involve Stuart Pearce with the Under 21's and the full team. I am certainy not a Downing fan but he probably had his best game ever for England last night.
baldy Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Wake up you lot. England are a QF team who have NO world class players and certainly not a squad capable of getting anywhere.
somersetspur Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Ill agree with you on that one Baldy.
somersetspur Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 So how many of the so called back-up players will keep there places, when everyone is fit.? NO ONE. So I will stick to my prediction,Capello or not we will not win the World Cup. Last nights victory pleased me, but I know what will happen,it dose'nt matter how well the fringe players performed, they will not get a chance. If I was Manager, the first thing I would say to those players last night would be,great result lads, stay fit, because you will ALL start the next game,THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN. WHY.?
Guest Peppermint Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Some good points Somersetspur - I do not think they will win the next World Cup but at least they will go better prepared than usual for the competition. We might be surprised and find Capello does leave some of the more established players on the bench at least for the next game. He seems to have a good relationship wiith Stuart Pearce and Pearce has done a great job with the Under 21's. Capello does not appear to suffer fools gladly and I am sure if one of the so called established players does not perform then he will be axed. We will have to wait and see.
Deano11 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Thats Why you boys will never be rich, I am sure England will win the next world cup, and trying to look for the best odds I can find now. I may even have a tenner with you somerset on England :P
Guest Peppermint Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 I sincerely hope you are right Iamthebest - it would be great to see England lift the trophy.
Deano11 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 To be fair what it does show last night is we have strength in depth, and players like Glen Johnson are starting to cement there place in the team, by 2010 stevie g, lamps, rio, etc will be at their peak of careers and possible last chance of world cup glory, plus players like theo coming through and will better players by then it does look good boys but I suppose 42 yrs with disappointment doesnt help in giving you boys belief Luckily I have only had 23 :D

somersetspur Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 These people who consume wine in the day time, really got to try to kick that habit. :D
Mark C Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 carrick should be in england set up out of those stand in players i think anyway ive said it since his been at united he grows from strength to strength and could b key piech to fit in with the so called lampard gerrard debate and even if germany didnt turn up perhaps cause england played well enough to make them not turn up.
Deano11 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 To be fair I cant take notice of Somerset opinion on England as his beloved Spurs sent there best player Bent and he missed an open goal slip or not that shudnt happen at this level
somersetspur Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Saving it for the weekend. My point exactly. When everyone is fit,he won't be in the squad. Who is the top English goalscorer in the Premiership.?
Mark C Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 are you both scottish? worst shout going!
Deano11 Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 baldy and somerset your taxi is outside ! You two remind of the two old grannies you always get in the bus stop, you know the ones who never stop moaning about something, and nothing is ever any good, maybe I have seen the future for you two !!!
Guest football mad Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Somerset you are so negative we go to one of our greatest rivals with 8 of our first 11 missing, we come back with a win and you still find something to have a dig about, Next thing you will tell me your a Tottenham fan things really couldnt get any worse then
Guest Peppermint Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 I have to agree with Iamthebest and Mark.C it does seem that there is no pleasing some people. Mark.C makes the point about Baldy and Somersetspur being Scottish and if that is true then I can understand the usual anti English stance. Would you rather have the inept and useless McClaren back in charge. Capello has done a great job so far and I am sure that England will improve further. Argentina are supposedly the favourites for the World Cup - God knows how with Maradonna in charge - for how long I wonder will this gimmick work. Argentina played a very poor Scottish side and only won by a single goal.
somersetspur Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Please read my posts.I said I was PLEASED with the result. Also quoted that I felt the fringe players played well, but will not have a shout when the show ponies return. IN MY OPINION.When the heat is on ,and push comes to shove ,in the pressure cooker of a World Cup,I dont think England will win it. Its people like all you guys, say your patriotic and getting behind the team, that heaps all the pressure on the team even more. Won't it be nice to go into the competition saying,do as well as you can lads,no pressure on the team, but the Media will all build them into world beaters.BIG PRESSURE.

Won't it be nice to go into the competition saying,do as well as you can lads,no pressure on the team, but the Media will all build them into world beaters.BIG PRESSURE. I don't resort to swearing very often, but I'm not far off it here. You are talking through your arse again (surprise surprise). I know that most of your posts are written to deliberately increase debate, but sometimes I think you really do believe in what you are saying. I don't think anyone on here is saying that England will win the world cup. I think that most people now believe, with the squad we have available and the manager we have at the helm, England are capable of winning the world cup. It's football, on any day, anything can happen. Look at the Spurs v Liverpool game, the best team did not win on the day (I'm not opening old wounds or anything, just stating my feelings about an individual game you may remember). Look at what might happen to England, the best team might not win on the day!!! It looks increasingly likely we will make it to South Africa. I believe strongly that England will make it out of the group stages if we do. They are good enough for that. Then, it comes down to the match on the particular day in the knock out stages. England can win it. I would be interested to see how many teams you consider as being able to win the trophy. You are adamant that England can't win it, so who can in your opinion?
somersetspur Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Where have you been,Mangle.? I dont speak through my a--,little Gooner, just speak my opinion. It's almost 2 years to go before the World Cup Starts. We have not even qualified, and here we all go. Im as patriotic about my country,as the next man,and will cheer them on the same as everybody else. How many countries qualifies.? 32.So Mangle every single one has a chance. But how many times have we all been here before with England. Lets just qualify first. Then let the Media and all you lot build them up as world beaters, add twice as much pressure on the team.Thats just what they want. As for Winners, predicting 2 years in advance is difficult, but Im sure all the usual candidates will be there or there abouts,BRAZIL,ARGENTINA,SPAIN,ITALY,GERMANY,PORTUGAL,HOLLAND. ENGLAND=Quarter or Simi finalists, then we have all been there before. Nice to hear from you Mangle, suppose if Man City win at the weekend, you will disappear for another couple of weeks.?
Mangle Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 ....there is only limited internet access here at Rampton where I am staying whilst Arsenal are screwing with my brain......
somersetspur Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Jesus, sorry to hear that. The way things are going, you may be in there for a while. :yahoo:
Guest stealth Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 with the big name players pulling out it was nice to see the smaller clubs get a chance to see there players get a chance to play and score. :ninja:
Guest Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 I guess the likes of Ferdinand, Brown, A. Cole, Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney and J. Cole oh and of course Walcott were a big miss but thankfully at least 9 of the players who took part against the Germans have all played some part in all of our qualifiers so far James, Upson, Bridge, Terry, Johnson, Barry, Downing, Wight-Phillips & Carson so it cannot be all bad and if thats the England second team beating the the second best team in the world according to Fifa then Capello must be doing something right although i was supprised to see bent in the side somersetspur, i agree on the bit about making us out to be world beaters and we are certainly not that but were doing ok and as England fans we dont usualy have a lot to cheer about so just enjoy it while we can thats what i say, Come world cup time if we have qualified then we will see just how good we are dont you agree
somersetspur Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Yes I do agree, things seem to be going in the right direction under Capello. But as Ive said ,we have been here before.
baldy Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 Yeah, we all want England to do well (no I am not Scottish!) but we haven't played Ukraine yet (they are unbeaten) and meaningless friendlies shouldn't give you false hope. Wait till the real games restart and then let's see how good we really are. I was at Wembley last year when we lost to Croatia and I couldn't help laughing at our (McCaren's) ineptitude. We don't have the strength in depth to win a major trophy. The best 11 may be OK but how often are they available at the same time. We need 1 team to qualify & then bring in the players to win it. off the top of my head .. Lennon, Agbonlahore maybe even Mancienne not the usual crap we get (Phil Neville, David Batty ......).
