Foxhole 8 Wendron 1

Saturday 15th November 2008

Foxhole's impressive league run continued at the expense of depleted Wendron, against whom events were to cruelly transpire throughout the afternoon. The Foxes gained control straightaway and Rickard, who had already gone close with a 25-yard lob, opened the scoring on 13 with a beautifully judged chip from nearly twice that distance. Five minutes later, Friendship released Capeling who was bundled over by Gray as he raced into the area. The keeper was dismissed, perhaps harshly, and his replacement Thompson was easily beaten from the spot by Warne.

Capeling then blazed over after being cleverly found by Rickard, whose pressure on Weaver presented Butler with a simple chance for the third on 33. Seven minutes before the break, the unfortunate Weaver failed to cut out Adam Holland's long pass, Thompson slipped trying to gather the ball, and only succeeded in fumbling it straight to a grateful Bromley to convert from a tight angle. Till was soon booked for a foul on Friendship before Bromley collided with Thompson, who had to be stretchered off during the break as the referee wisely blew for time two minutes early.

To be fair, Wendron's third keeper, Blatch, looked relatively assured and the visitors gamely, if briefly, exerted some pressure, with Hodson firing over from the edge of the box. However, on 58, Barber was unable to prevent Holland's crossfield ball from reaching Butler, who displayed admirable composure to make it 5-0. Eight minutes later, Prince's fine left wing centre was headed home powerfully by Bromley and a cricket score seemed possible, but Vague rolled a shot wide before Pope ran through a static home defence for a well-taken consolation on 72.

Searle had been niggling away for most of the game and was finally cautioned following a foul on Bromley with a quarter of an hour to go; from the subsequent free-kick, Rickard hit a screamer past Blatch. Pope's pointless dissent earned him an immediate second yellow and, with only nine men, Wendron only held out for three more minutes before conceding the eighth when Rickard's corner was dropped by Blatch for the lurking Bromley to complete his hat-trick from all of a yard.

Winno was on holiday in America. Anyone know how Dave Thomson is after his injury on Saturday?

I was told at training last night that Dave has broken a bone in his foot, in plaster now, out for a while.

Another bad injury to add to our list at Wendron already this season, cant buy luck like ours, as this game showed! not much going our way at the moment, but sure it'll improve.

As you said, yes winno's been on holiday for 2 weeks, back this weekend i believe
