Penzance Reserves 1-1 Falmouth Town Reserves

This was a case of two points dropped instead of one point gained for the Magpies. They had several chances to put the game to bed but robust defending by Falmouth thwarted them. Falmouth played out the last few minutes after they had a player sent off by the referee who also booked another six players, five of them from the Town.

Within moments of the kick-off James Street was lucky to get away with a push in the box which the ref didn’t spot much to the annoyance of the Falmouth bench. Falmouth begin the match doing most of the attacking football but are caught off-side time and again. They play some neat passing moves whilst Penzance are playing long ball which is dealt with for most of the game by the Falmouth back four.

Penzance get a free kick, 30yds out, central mid-field. Danny Magee gets the ball low round the wall but the keeper gathers. A few minutes later a Penzance break on the left sees Magee into the box at the goal-line. He lobs the keeper and a back post header is somehow grabbed by the keeper who rushed across his box.

Then Falmouth take the lead. Working down the pitch on the right they put in a cross pitch ball to the back of the box where James Parkinson, a new signing, volleys low into the net from 10yds out. 15mins 0-1.

The first Falmouth player gets booked for a challenge and from the free kick which is in the same position as before, the ball flies over the bar. Penzance get another free kick out on the right. The ball comes into the box but is headed just wide of the back post.

Penzance get another couple of half chances but both teams cancel each other out.

Penzance have a golden opportunity to take the lead when they work the ball forward, it’s picked up by Liam Devine who shoots low past the keeper from the edge of the box, but to every Magpie supporters’ frustration, it bounces of the inside of the bottom of the post, runs along the goaline and away.

The referee, who had a excellent game, blows for full time without playing any injury time.
