Darin Morse
Foxhole 0 Godolphin 0 Saturday 13th September 2008 For the second time this season Foxhole failed to secure a deserved victory over Godolphin, and were left to reflect ruefully on their inability to convert numerous opportunities. Nicholls may have completed a hat-trick inside fifteen minutes, but volleyed an open goal against the bar, then headed weakly at May from close range from Capeling's cross before chipping just past the upright from twenty-five yards. Although Eglinton nodded over with the keeper beaten, the nearest Godolphin came to scoring was Rowe's misdirected back header which was brilliantly clawed away by Holland, and, while new signing Thompson impressed in the visiting midfield and some pretty patterns were weaved by the likes of Kershaw, Dilley and Lowry, the Foxes reached the break unfortunate only to be level, with Butler twice guilty of poor finishing late on. The second half was broadly similar. Griffin was summoned from the bench to harass a defence prone to playing the suicidal square pass, but he was deployed too deep to make a significant impact and proceeded to waste two one-on-ones.A flowing move released Butler but his effort was smothered, while the disappointing Capeling may on another day have been successful with at least one of the three half-chances he was presented with. The hard-working Bromley saw a long range pile-driver beaten aside before he received a needless yellow card for delaying a free-kick around the time of rare visiting pressure, as Holland denied Lowry from six yards, Moore somehow stumbled on the ball with the net gaping, and substitute Hallett's low cross flashed across goal. Clearly frustrated by Mr Nute's inconsistent performance, the mild-mannered Butler was cautioned for dissent in stoppage time (joining Watson after a foul on Dilley) and, after the final whistle, Bromley became the third Foxhole player to be dismissed this season for two bookable offences when the referee took exception to opinions no doubt shared by most of the depressed home support. Foxhole (4-4-2): Ryan Holland 7; Matt May 6 (sub. Richard Griffin 6), Lewis Prince 7, Phil Hobbs 6, Mark Rowe 8; Andrew Butler 7, Jason Warne 6, Tom Watson 6 (sub. Adam Holland 5), Adam Bromley 7; Liam Nicholls 5 (sub. Kyle Friendship 5), Steve Capeling 5. Godolphin (4-4-2): Chris May; Aaron Dilley, Aaron Hawken, Kyle Brown, Sam Eglinton; Scott Flanagan (sub. Matt Hallett), Phil Lowry, Mark Kershaw, Mick Thompson; Dan O'Callaghan, Dave Moore (sub. Kieran Avery). Referee: Mr Steve Nute (Saltash 6).
