The Gooner
Did the trials still go ahead or did the weather take its toll. If so was there a good turnout and will there be a strong squad to select from? When will the squad be named (presumably after the western area has been looked at)? Tommy Matthews
Thanks for asking, they went ahead as scheduled at Dobwalls with a very enthusiastic turnout. Around 35 players turned up and gave their all, and from that we've selected aound 20 to either go through to the East v West trial in 2 weeks or to come to Helston next Thursday so we can have another look at them. A couple of players were there but carrying knocks so they'll get another chance to prove themselves then. The standard was again high with lots of competition for places. The idea is that we get down to a squad of around 20 players for a proposed friendly and from that narrow it down still further to 16 for our first game. It's great that we've had so much support already and I'd like to thank all those who took part whether or not they were successful as well as Dobwalls for hosting us, and the referee for doing a great job. Those players that didn't make it will now be on our radar and hopefully we can continue to track their progress during the season.
Gareth Rowett
Hi Tommy, where will the East v West trial be held?
Pete Tully
So the west trial is next thursday at Helston yes? Is that at the school or football club? What time will it be? Will let our under 18's manager know so he can pass it onto some of the players
Tommy Matthews
Gareth, We're waiting on confirmation of a ground but all yesterday's successful trialiasts will be notified and hopefully we'll know by next Thursday at Helston FC (be there at 6pm) so we can tell them on the night. Hope that answers your question, Pete.
