St Just 3-7 Penzance Reserves

This game exploded into life during the 2nd half with the score only being 0-1 at half-time.

In the Penzance squad was Ashley Thomas marking his return to the Magpies after a spell at Falmouth Town. Also playing were Craig Nicholls in goal and Liam Devine.

Penzance started the better side as the St Just team was made up of 1st teamers and reserves. Within 8 mins they were 1-0 up but not before they had had 4 pot-shots on goal. Penzance attack down their left, a cross goal ball from Ian Philips leaves Ross Badcock with a simple tap-in at the back post.

St Just then get a corner on their left. The ball is floated in but a near-post header goes wide.

After roughly 15mins both teams settle down and there is a period of end to end play. Penzance play a passing game at the back keeping hold of the ball for long periods with St Just relying on fast breakaways.

Neither team has a real shot on goal until after half-time.

Penzance come out from the dressing room all guns blazing. A shot by Bradley Wills rebounds off the bar with the keeper stranded.

Then against the run of play St Just equalise. They get a free kick, mid-field, edge of the box. Andrew Curnow steps up and places the ball into the top left-hand corner past a diving Craig Nicholls. 1-1 on 57mins.

This goal sparks Penzance into life and they score 5 goals in the next 19minutes.

The St Just lead lasts just one minute. From the kick-off a through ball from Liam Devine to Ashley Gray sees him place a neat cross goal shot into the back of the net from the right. 59mins, 1-2.

5mins later Ashley Thomas on the right lobs the keeper to make it 1-3 (63mins).

On the next Penzance attack a high lobbed ball from Adam Flood drops down on the 6yd line. The keeper and Ross Badcock jump for it and Ross nods it into the back of the net. 1-4 on 67mins.

Ashley Gray makes a good run into the St Just box, lays it off to Danny Michael who blasts it from 15yds. The St Just keeper makes a great fingertip save to force a corner.

Ryan Andrew then tries his luck with a long range shot from near the halfway line that rattles the St Just crossbar with the keeper stranded.

Ashley Thomas then makes a run, puts in a cross goal ball from the right for Ross Badcock to head in at the back post. 73mins 1-5.

St just then get a freekick on the right. The ball comes in across the goal and is headed goalwards from the 6yd line but Craig Nicholls makes a one hand diving save to flick the ball out for a corner.

On 77mins a long through ball sees Ashley Gray and the keeper race for the ball and it squirts out into the net to make it 1-6.

Then Penzance seen to fall asleep as the St Just youngsters pull a couple back with a few minutes left on the clock.

On 85mins a lobb from 35yds by Dan ??? (no-one from St Just seemed to know his surname!) beats the Penzance keeper who can only watch it go over his head into the net, 2-6.

3mins later the same player runs in on goal, side steps the keeper and neatly puts one away to make it 3-6.

Penzance then have time for Ross Badcock to finish the scoring with a strong header at the back post from a cross goal ball. 89mins 3-7

the lad from st just was called dan page who looked quite useful. the st just side was a mix of 1st and 2nds, there was two from the 1st team chris and andrew curnow. if pz had a couple of older heads in there side with some of the youngsters they have they would be a useful outfit!! ashley thomas and dan page both awesome on the night
