David Bray
Bude Town 5 Millbrook 1. Congratulations to Bude Town who deservedly won the 'Rathbone Trophy' at sunny Lux Park in front of a large crowd. Last season Bude suffered the heartbreak of loosing a penalty shoot out to Helston in the final of the County Under 16 Knockout Cup. But today they were all smiles as they were presented with the famous trophy by the County President, Brian Conyon. :clapper:
CoachKT
Well done to the Bude lads. Hope Cornwall FA have enough winners medals so that Matt Warburton the normal U18 GK, who broke his leg playing for their 1st team last week gets one. Wonder what excuses Keano will have ??? 5-1 sounds pretty emphatic.
Dave Deacon
Yes I enjoyed the match ............ started off with some meaty tackles and within the opening quarter referee Gary Cornish had to be on the top of his game to ensure a final wasn't ruined by too much whistle. Bude definitely deserved to win, playing the more football and despite going behind to a shot that, sorry to say, their 'keeper should have stopped. Bude 2-1 up by the break and then a mad short spell in the second-half when they scored three goals in probably less than 10 minutes. One a penalty - which from where I was standing looked like hand ball, just inside the box. In those ten minutes Millbrook also suffered a sending off - the left back Adam Casey. Shame really, but definite trip on the Bude player which ref couldn't fail to see. You could argue that there were three other Millbrook players closing down the attacker, but could be seen as dangerous play perhaps. Have to say that no one for me stood out for Millbrook, while in contrast for the winners - skipper Billy Hopcroft was more than lively upfront for them, a name to remember for the future. Steven Box - I'm pretty sure he headed home the all important second (a well-placed header) - skilful wide player, and as the game went on, Daniel Starkey (if he was no. 5) a tower of strength at the back. Just a shame he had to be reminded to go up for a corner in the first-half - believe in your own ability. That goes for all the players. Oh .. almost forgot, also Bude's No.6 - I think it was Luke Potter - hard-working, hard-tackling midfielder, but with a lot of skill as well. Really unlucky not to go all the way and score with a run that took him all the way into what must have been almost the Millbrook 6-yard box. Congratulations on a great game. :D
CoachKT
The three Bude players mentioned all played for their 1st team against Bere Alston United recently and were instrumental in grabbing a 2-2 with Stephen Box nicking the equaliser in the last minute. All three are very good lads and testament to Budes very good youth policy. They'll probably help to form a good Bude Town team over the next few years, unless any of the North Devon clubs in the SWPL or Western League come calling. Guest Tractorboy
Quote from Millbrook U18's Manager a few weeks ago: "yeah and after watching bude i think some of the players should still be playing mini soccer !!" "Dont you wish just sometimes you kept your mouth shut until after a game!!" Well done Bude well deserved!!!! :yahoo:
Grant
I taught many of the Bude boys when I was working at Bude school and was part of the coaching tea,m alongside joe dyer when they won the county schools u15 final. A very good team. Can someone post the whole team line up for me? Unlucky to milbrook, a little over confident (or arrogant) I feel. truly stuffed

budetownfcbicks
rich goes to our 6th form still and plays for our 6th form team and we have a final on monday actually. but he plays his club footie for holswrthy and wasnt too interested in playing in this U18's cup but said the other day he wished he played now. yeah well we beleived this was our year because the 2 years of footie players were the best teams our area had had in ages and went into the final not too confident (unlike Millbrook) because we had never played them b4 and gave them a beating. and yea full backs had a good solid game and it helped as we kept the same defence all the way through the cup. unfortunately warbie broke his leg the week before so he cudnt play and was truly gutted. but it was all good, try and win it again next year but have a weaker squad but we will give it a go.
