Boxy Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 St Stephen 1st 1-6 Looe Town 1st Today we travelled to St Stephen’s to play our first game of the new year. The last four seasons I have managed Looe, I’ve yet to get a win here. Jon and his team have always given us a game and today was not to be taken lightly. For the first thirteen minutes its was a game that could go either way. Then Jimi Taylor scored his first with a Philippos Kombostiotis assist. St Stephen’s replied straight away by equaling in the next phase of play. It looked like we were going to be in for a game. On the 20th minute, Jimi stuck the ball again. He hit the crossbar, it bounced in and then back out of the goal. Unfortunately, the game carried on and the goal was not given. About 5 minutes later, Matt Steed put a great ball through the defenders. Jimi got behind them to score but to then have his goal dismissed for being offside. Looe started to take control of the game and continued to press and move the ball forwards playing the ball out from the back with nice quick passing. Our second came on the 30th minute when Reece Wilmott took a corner on the far side. The ball was meet by Josh Doney, who headed it into the net. St Stephen’s had a couple of chances, in particular when the left winger cut back in across goal with a good shot saved by Ryan Cooke. Towards the end of the first half, their keeper passed the ball out which went straight to William Trevarthen. Will, then chipped the keeper from long-distance. He took it well and put us 3-1 up just before half time. Looe started the second half strong and continued to press forwards. About 10 minutes in St Stephen’s conceded a corner. Reece crossed it into the near post for Jimi to a slot in. The whistle went and the Referee believed Jimi had foaled the defender, the goal was disallowed and a free kick awarded. With legs getting tired, we started to use the bench. First we brought off young Charlie Garner for Archie Sweeney. This was shortly followed by Reece for Barny Stephenson. Harrison Harvey-Searle came off for Billy Chamberlain and finally William for George Beardsmore. Our last two goals came from Jimi for his hat-trick assist by Phil again. The last came from a Jimi assist for Barny to score on the 90th minute. Team today was Ryan Cooke, Richard Faircloth, Jack Woollett, Harrison Harvey-Searle, Philippos Kombostiotis, Joshua Doney, William Trevarthen, Matthew Steed, Charlie Garner, Jimi Taylor, Reece Willmott. Subs – Archie Sweeney, Billy Chamberlain, George Beardsmore& Barny Stephenson. Thanks to St Stephen’s for keeping the pitch in good order. It allowed us to play today despite the weather. As always, great hosts and their food after is always brilliant too. Last thing to mention, a massive thank you to the four young lads who convinced one of their dads to drive them down so they could bang the drum and sing their songs. Looe town now have their own Ultras 🥁🦈💛🖤😂 Luke Gibbons and Thecupfootballblogger 2
Byron10 Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 Nanpean 2 torpoint 1 first and foremost fair play to Nanpean for getting the game on. football is a cruel sport. A game where we dominated from start to finish has seen us come away with nothing. A goal within the first 5 minutes and a pen 20 mins into the second half was enough to claim all 3 points for the hosts. We did manage to pull one back ourselves through a hussey pen late into the game and if it had been 5 inches to the right a leveller through a set piece mins after. Loads of positives to take, really happy with the way we’ve played in really poor conditions. Just need that little bit of quality in the final third to take us up a gear and give us some breathing space in games. massive thankyou to Nanpean once again and the spread afterwards was brilliant 👏 away to st minver next week but where we’ll be playing is anyone’s guess as I assume they still don’t have a ground… Thecupfootballblogger and Luke Gibbons 2
