I've seen a few 8s, the odd 9, one 10 but never a 12 in an Ashes league game.

And Ive not known an Ashes player score 7 in one match either. And but for 2 marginal offsides Rikki could have had 9.

It was dominant on a heavy pitch. Goals from

Rikki Shepherd

Eli Evans

Tom Payne

Fin Wilkes

Kieran O'Melia

OG

As for the Welton player who thought a legbreaking tackle followed by a "Glasgow Kiss" which landed was going to help their cause, I hope he enjoys his long ban. Welton and football in general doesnt need players like that.

Some result that. Are welton  struggling ? I remember millbrook being on the end of some bad losses in that league but 12-1 that some embarrassing hammering

Good to see Ricky shepherd back fit and scoring. Saltash were never in danger of going down once he was back to fitness

In all fairness well done to Welton and the management/committee for fulfilling the fixture, apart from the numpty who got sent off (probably 2 red cards, 1 for challenge, 1 for the headbutt). Worked tirelessly especially the number 6 for Welton.
unfortunately the lad who got sent off left the ground and drove home once he was sent off in the 2nd half despite driving some of the Welton players down 🙈. Hope they got a lift home!

St.Austell 2-1 Ilfracombe.

Before the kick off both sides observed a minute silence in memory of the late Peter Beard.

Both sides gave the spectators full value in their endeavours not helped by a heavy playing surface and visabity hampered by fog and misty rain.

St.Austell went in at half time a goal to the good c/o Adam Carter.

The overall visibility got worse in the second period , however Matt Searle continued his ever improving season by hammering St.Austell's second after seventy minutes. Ilfracombe came back strongly and reduced the arrears although it was impossible to see how due to the mist & rain.

Full marks for the match officials for playing on through in adverse weather conditions.

Well done to both sides, safe journey back to the Ilfracombe players and their officials.

Report – Saturday 11th January

Torpoint Athletic 3-2 Paulton Rovers

Jewson Western League, Premier Division

With Robbie Morris at The Mill

Torpoint Athletic pulled themselves out of the relegation zone for the first time since early November with this incredible game at The Mill on Saturday afternoon, with Curtis Damerell and James Rowe going straight into squad after re-signing for Torpoint over the Christmas period from St Austell and Buckland Athletic. However Ryan Rickard was the star of show, saving all three of the visitor’s penalties, which is unheard of in the Western League and could be a very rare thing in football in general.

The hosts started the brightest of the two teams, racing into two go lead in the opening 22 minutes of the match. On the seventh minute Will Sullivan made a weaving run through the visiting defence and blasted home from 18 yards past the visiting keeper Dan Jackson then on the 22nd minute a mistake by Paulton’s defence allowed Curtis Damerell in with the ball, he lobbed the ball over Jackson into an empty net, Damerell scoring in his first game back at Torpoint.

Five minutes later, the visitors pulled a goal back when a corner was partially cleared by the hosts defence. Milo Murgatroyd got hold of the loose ball and his shot took a deflection up and over Rickard into the net.

The visitors in the final 15 minutes of the half got into the game and with two minutes remaining of the half when Kye Simpson was brought down in the box by Sam Hepworth. The referee points to the penalty spot for the first one of the afternoon. Dan McBeam took the spot kit, Rickard saves it but McBeam scuffs the rebound for the loose ball to fall to Will Hailstone who fires home, however the goal was disallowed for being offside.

Seven minutes after the restart Murgatroyd for the visitors broke clear after beating two Torpoint defenders, his shot was put around the post by Rickard with a great save.

Three minutes later on the counter attack, Gary Hird for the hosts ran down the right wing in a blistering run and cut into the area, his shot is blocked by the visiting keeper.

On the 68th minute, Rovers where awarded the second penalty of the day after Hepworth was judged to handle the ball in the area. Up stepped Will Hailstone and his spot kick was well saved by Rickard.

Two minutes later the hosts extended their lead when Curtis Damerell laid the ball on to James Rowe who blasted home from close range.

On the 76th minute the visitors was awarded their third penalty of the afternoon when Billy Padfield was brought down in the area, Jack Farion stepped up this time, his well took penalty was well saved by Rickard to the amazement of everyone in the ground who could not believe what they have witnessed this afternoon!

With nine minutes remaining the visitors reduced their arrears to a single goal when Murgatroyd crossed the ball to Kye Simpson to head home from six yards.

In the latter stages of the match, the hosts stood firm against their visitors who were trying to find an equaliser.

Three penalty saves in a game - surely that cannot be something that has been done before! Congratulations to the goalkeeper and a great result to boot.

Interesting goings on at The Mill with a flurry of ex players returning with their former manager, goes to show local football is more a case of 'who you know' rather than 'what you know'. Was Fice just out of his depth? It doesn't look good that these players didn't want to play for him but have returned with a click of Cardew's fingers, unless Torpoint have panicked given their league standing and have splashed the cash to bring them back which maybe wasn't available beforehand, it's well known that Cardew has always looked after Richards.

It also doesn't look good for Buckland losing two players in Rowe and Richards to a team at the bottom of the league. I know neither have really pulled up any trees at Buckland and Richards has had spells in the league below as well this season but still strange to see Buckland losing players (unless of course they were told they were surplus to requirements). Richards would surely only help a play off push and I'm sure will provide Torpoint with a bit of firepower alongside Damerell to get them out of trouble.

Richards certainly wasn't living up to his past exploits and didn't really add anything to the team, so was let go.

Richards seems to have floated around different teams this year. Never really got going at Buckland and was over shadowed by lewington .  Damerell the same. Never got going at st. Austell   . I guess both needed a fresh challenge and Back to  strike up the partnership to get torpoint out of trouble.

Or possibly just play better where they are happy?
