Brixham 3 - 2 St Blazey

Very even game, Brixham edged the first half but it was defiently Blazeys second half. Considering Brixham are top of the league this game and Blazeys recent form, you would have thought this was going to be one sided, however it could really have gone either way.

Brixham were finding room down the Blazey flanks and there first goal was from a decent cross.

Blazey equalized from a corner which resulted in a goal mouth scramble and the ball was slotted home by Alfie Fothergill. 1-1.

Brixham attacked the flanks again straight from ko and found another decent cross which was also converted. 2-1.

Just before half time what looked to be a blatant handball, it seemed to stop all the players, which resulted in a massive gap for the striker to shoot into and it was put to the keepers left, for Brixhams third. 3-1

2nd half was end to end, Blazey were awarded a penalty, which was missed by youngster Jaiden Gilbert.

They did however pull one back after Jaffa Rowe created space for himself on the edge of the box. And slotted into the bottom corner. 3-2.

The last 10 mins was all Blazey but a Fothergill headed effort at the end was not enough and they head out of the cup.

Blazey will surely get some luck in the next few weeks, they have the players to be comfortable in the western league this season.

Not much between the teams really. Brixham are Top as you say but have played loads of games. Squad depth and playing the “big teams” will be a factor for them by Christmas.

As for Blazey, the guys need a manager to come in and work with the players for a few weeks. The talent is there though

Only 6 pts separate 2nd place Clevedon down to 9th place Shepton. Would think that the Western League will, as usual, be hotly contested at the top.

Brixham, Street, Ivybridge and Shepton have played more. It's the old debate though of points on the board v games in hand, especially when we hit "game off" season proper.

Torpoint 2-2 St Austell

St Austell win 4-3 on penalties

Back to back Cup games over the past few days at The Mill.

The game started in pretty frantic fashion, new signing Downing immediately driving at the Torpoint defence and flashing his cross past all players in the 6 yard box. It wasn't long before the game had it's first goal with Pope driving forward and crossing to Cloke for his 10th of the season across all competitions. Torpoint continued to have the lion share of the possession but with Cloke, Elliot and Jeffrey all spurning chances to double the advantage however the door was always going to be open for the visitors. The game was tied in the 43rd minute when a superb corner was met by the rising Wilson in the Torpoint 6-yard box but this was only the start of the chaos until half-time. Almost immediately Torpoint replied with another excellent delivery by Crawford to be matched by Elliot who directed into the top corner from 12 yards. With the half drawing to a, long, close. St Austell found themselves almost unmarked in the Torpoint area, Crawford reacted quickest to get across to block the shot but the whistle was quickly blown not for half time but a penalty to the shock of most in attendance. Slateford made no mistake from the spot.

The overall quality of the first half wasn't met in the second unfortunately. Torpoint had the better of the opportunities to regain the lead early with Cloke heading narrowingly over the bar. In the 55th, there was a second penalty of the game. This time, Cloke beat Mulready one-v-one with some slight contact 5 yards outside of the area. As Cloke continued his run he lost his footing to lose the ball, again no hesitation from the match official who pointed to the spot for another hash penalty. Some would say justice was served as Jeffrey's attempt was saved by Collins. Late into the half it felt as though St Austell may find a winner but Marris was unable to take probably their biggest opportunity. Full time, 2-2 and on to penalties:

Torpoint:
Scorers: Jeffrey; Cloke; Chapman
Missed: Pope (saved); Elliot (hit the bar)

St Austell:
Scorers: Slateford; Marris; Watson; Whipp
Missed: Duff (saved)

Don't under-estimate the Fish. Brixham are very well organised, with a great team ethic and have a never-say-die spirit. They might not have so many "name' players as others, their budget likewise, but the collective is impressive. Quite a derby game with Buckland on 2 November coming up!

Should be a decent crowd for that, might have to get over early and secure my place in the clubhouse 😊

It was good to see Bucks win on penalties last night at Ivybridge. They will need to be better to best the Fish on Nov 2. They are well capable of improving on last night though!

The Fish seem to have the happy habit of getting over the line in tight games. They did this on Saturday v Bridgwater. Hard side to beat. No real ‘stars’ but collectively a strong unit.
