Looe Town 1st V Pensilva 1st

8 – 3

This week’s game started very quickly with an early goal from Philippos Kombostiotis. Two minutes in Jimi Tayor took the first corner of the match and whipped in a great ball towards the far post. Josh Doney was first to the ball but merely touch it (with his head) on to Phil who headed the ball in to the net.

Looe were retaining and passing the ball around well and not giving Pensilva much. On the ninth minute, Looe made a mistake and Pensilva took full advantage and out the ball in the net making it 1-1. Looe lost concentration and started to lose possession to Pensilva. Ten minutes later Looe went on the attack again and the ball was passed in to Barny Stephenson who fabulously dinked the ball through to Finley Bartlett to make it 2-1. Looe started to take control of the game again and then another error made put the score level two minutes later. Jack Woollett shouted to do a defensive clearance and misjudged the ball, the Pensilva player ran through on to the ball and chipped it over our keeper.

Shortly after the restart, Looe were again awarded a corner. Jimi Taylor again whipped in a ball on to the far side and the ball was played back in to the box. A bit of a scramble and the ball was then toe punted over the line before the keeper saved it (2-2). Fair play to the linesman who confirmed it was a goal.

Two minutes later Looe won the ball and took control of the tempo. A rest back to the keeper and a couple of passes from defence into the midfield. The ball was passed in to Finley in the middle of the pitch and he ran through a couple of players and passed the ball in to the net making 3-2. Looe continued to take control and play their game.

It become obvious that Pensilva liked to play long ball and all we had to do was get it down and play. before half time, Josh Doney scored the fifth with another Barny assist. Followed a sixth goal from Phil, who was assisted by Fin.

Barny a few chances that he should have put away but the goal on two of these attempts, pulled off some great saves. This kept the score at 6-2 at half time.

The second half plan was to go out and get an early goal. Two minutes in Phil put Barny through and this time he put it in the net (7-2). Looe continued to play and move the ball around frustrating Pensilva.

On the 61st minute, Josh Doney made it 8-2. Not long after we made a substitution and took Josh off and replaced him with Callum Palfrey. Callum moved to the wind and Jimi then played in the Centre.

70th minute we decided to take Barny off and out Archie sweeney up top along side Fin. Looe continued to retain the ball and play it around. Build chance after chance, again the Pensilva keeper put in a shift.

Pensilva made a few changes and in the last 15 minutes their game changed, and they too started to play. A through ball was played and their player ran through and scored the final goal of the game.

Pensilva when given chances in the game, took them well and tested Ryan a few times. Their Keeper was the main reason Looe didn’t see more goals, he played a great game.

All our lads played well today but in particular, Philippos Kombostiotis was outstanding and won the man of the match.

Goals –

Philippos Kombostiotis 2’ 44’

Finley Bartlett 28’ 33’

Harrison Harvey-Searle 32’

Josh Doney 42’ 61’

Barny Stephenson 47’

Next week we’re away to St Newlyn East which will be no doubt an interesting game.

St Dominic 8 St Austell 8

One of strangest games ever played at Lovells.
Won’t go into full details of the game, however conceding 8 goals and loosing our discipline cost us the win.
On a positive going forward we were superb, with Connor Bone scoring 4(the fourth a cracker from really tight angle). Steve Nicholls grabbed two, Joe Dobby and Liam Hunn were the other scorers.

Our man of the match was Bone, we thank Radland Haulage Limited for sponsoring the game.

As a club we hope for some good news and recovery for first team manager and goalkeeper Jamie Blatchford, his absence yesterday was hugely felt! Hopefully he’ll be back between the sticks in no time 🤞
