Cornwall Intermediate Cup

Recommended Posts

Thunderstorm dodging today. South East Cornwall seemed to be top pick. Lovely dry day again, warm with sunny intervals.

Gave the Cornwall Intermediate Cup a go.. and glad I did too. (Apologies if I've put this match report in the wrong section)

Pensilva 3 Falmouth Town  Reserves 5

Head Count: 40

What a cracking good cup tie. Second half especially. Excellent standard.

Always enjoy a visit to the friendly Pensilva set up just below Bodmin Moor. The little main stand is a treat for non league ground admirers.

The hosts were in dreamland early second half. 3-2 ahead against a classy looking Falmouth outfit from a higher division.

There was a selection of classic goals crammed into this end to end face-off, a wonderful addition to a tussle that had everything, including the best refereeing performance I've witnessed this season.

Could Pensilva hold on to that slender 3-2 lead? At one stage they even looked like going further ahead.

The game dramatically swung midway through the second half. Two reasons: Falmouth changed their tactical related formation & secondly, no disrespect, the Pensilva side seemed to slip below the stamina levels of the frenetic periods of play earlier in the game.

Falmouth got their vital equaliser with around 10 minutes or so to go, extra time seemed a banker.

Some of the classy youngsters in the Falmouth side were growing in confidence and storming forward more & more.

Plucky Pensilva were wilting and unfortunately for them, their gallant efforts couldn't stem the tide.

At 3-4, Pensilva gallantly pushed forward but the space left behind gave the visitors even more opportunity. One of which produced a worldy free kick high into the top corner from considerable distance.

Falmouth go through but all credit to Pensilva for pushing them so hard, they almost achieved what would have been a very impressive cup win.

Great match.
