Illogan RBL 7 (I think), St Just 0

Hearing upon arrival that St Just had only brought a bare 11 and had some 1st team players missing I feared the worst, and so it proved but not only for that problem. My stopwatch showed 21 seconds when I looked at it after the first goal went in! The second goal had nothing to do with playing against a weakened side. A diagonal lobbed cross from the left channel was met first time at the right side of the box and volleyed past the 'keeper with just that one touch - as good a goal at Richards Lane as I have ever seen in 50 years of seeing football played there. You seldom see better at international level.

St Just gave a good account of themselves but were no match for Illogan. The first half goals were scored in the 1st, 14th, 20th, 25th, 31st and 44th minutes.

In the 55th minute a St Just central defender was sent off: I didn't even see a foul, just what looked like a slide tackle and Illogan player going down, but the ref blew, talked to the defender and showed the red card. Then in the 61st minute there was  a sickening collision between an Illogan forward and the St Just 'keeper. Both layers were flattened and the 'keeper seemed to be holding his face so I presumed a head injury but no whistle sounded and the ball ended in the St Just net. The 'keeper had to go off, replaced by an outfield player and the Sinners were down to 9 men. I think that was the end of. the scoring as the game fizzled to a damp end.

Hot drinks £1 as usual (Truro City take note).

Perranwell v Helston - match abandoned on 38 minutes after Helston player collapsed on the pitch. We wish him & his family all the best for a swift recovery. Thank you to everyone from Helston and others who provided swift support to the incident, and particularly to Kevin Tucker (The Well First Aider) for his immediate actions on the pitch to support the Helston player.

Really enjoyable and hard fought game between Illogan and West Cornwall. Slightly spoiled by the home teams reaction to losing and their gnome in midfield trying to fight everyone

Boscastle 4 torpoint 3

H Jackson, A parry, S Roberts, Z Pearce,  J white, M cotter, A northcott, J hussey, D place, W Ferguson, R Easterbrook.

subs; A brayson, B Robbins, L Darlington Brett.
subs not used; A brayson

Bullied at boscastle today. From the get go there was only one team who were going to play football today and it wasn’t the home side however the constant punt upfield paid dividends for them as they ran out 4-3 winners.

4 long balls not dealt with properly and 4 goals conceded. We simply could not pick up the first or second balls among other things that went against us, some out of our control.

All the best to boscastle and the local they found to ref the game.

An hour and a half travel time for us today and no official ref allocated…

Looe Town 1st 4 - 0 Wadebridge Town 2nd

Two young teams and both played good football. Looe got a little frustrated in the first half, with a few chances not paying off. Come the second half, Jimi Taylor slotted in the first and that gave Looe the momentum to go and get more.

Looe retained possession and played the ball well with a few more chances, during tue second half. Fin Bartlett scored the next three with assists from Phil Kombostiotis and Reece Wilmott.
The whole squad preformed well and I look forward to the next match. Looe are showing that they are finally maturing as a young squad. An interesting season ahead.

goals

Jimi Taylor 46’

Finnley Bartlett 49’ - assist Phil Kombostiotis

Finnley Bartlett 50’ - Reece Wilmottt

Finnley Bartlett 67’

man of the match - Finnley Bartlett

For a young team Wadebridge gave us a game. Their goal keeper was awesome today too. He made several great saves throughout the game.

Don’t think that’s how appointments work. I’m sure the appointments officer has enough to contend with, without having to look at the distance an away team is travelling.

What a player Finn is. I'll be hugely surprised if he doesn't score 50 this year. Great to see Jimi on the score sheet as well.

Good news update - Thankfully the player was discharged from hospital last night and is recovering at home, bloody scary few minutes for all concerned, but great news to know that he’s safely recovering.

Both were surprise signing but we’re delighted to have them at Looe. With the current squad looking good in preseason, I’m sure both lads along with William Trevarthen (from Lanreath) will add additional strength and depth.

still sticking with the majority of lads from the previous seasons and apart from 3 players the lads are between 16-23 years old.

Sticker 0 St Dominic 0

We travelled to Sticker yesterday with several unavailable due to injuries, cricket, etc but managed to gain a point in a game where on another day could have come away with all 3.

Loosing Waggy Searle after 15 minutes due to injury really made our task even more difficult, and with the home side probably having the best of the early exchanges, we still created two real good chances through Dylan Walker and Kieren Jasper, unfortunately they weren’t able to convert and we went into half time level.

The second half we came out the quickest and created a couple of half chances, but nothing to worry the keeper. On the hour mark Jamie Blatchford was called into action when their striker was found free in the box 6 yards out. It looked a likely goal only for Blatch to make a tremendous save with his feet.

After that it was all us, both returning Alex Jacob and Kieran Ryall were starting to cause the home defence real problems with their direct running. This was creating chances for our attackers, with Joe Dobby, Alfie Cloke and Jasper having notable chances. But we couldn’t break the deadlock and the final whistle blew with the scores level.

A valuable point on the road, at an always tricky ground for us. Man of the match went to James Pascoe for another solid display at the back. Thank you to Sticker for their hospitality, one of the best set ups in Cornwall 👏

Both can easily play in the SWPL but good to see them playing and enjoying their football. Having managed Jim a couple of years ago I can honestly say he was one of my favourite players for our reserves and one we called on last year for a little added experience for our 3rds. You've got 2 great lads there Boxy!
