Chris Davey
Probus 3 (George Truscott, Sam Bullen, own goal) Falmouth United 2 The visitors took the lead when a ball out of defence was well controlled by the forward and he played a through ball in behind the home backline who were appealing, in vane, for offside. Probus equalised when Jack Truscott was fouled, but the referee played an excellent advantage, which resulted in Joe Emmett crossing for midfielder George Truscott to tap home. The game flowed without any real chances being created and the only points of notes were bookings for home defenders, Martin and Adam Bishop (not related!). It looked like it would remain level at the break, but in the second minute of injury time a mistake in the home defence allowed the visiting number 31 to score. I’ve never seen players wearing numbers 31, 33 or 72 at St George’s Playing Field before! 1-2 at halftime. Straight after halftime the visitors number 33 was booked for a robust foul on Jack Truscott. From the resulting free kick by Justin Trebilcock, Adam Bishop headed over. 2 minutes later Dan Vincent fired a ball across the box which resulted in a visiting defender inadvertently sliding the ball into his own net to make it 2-2. After 52 minutes the visitors had a chance when a ball forward was dropped by the home keeper, but the visiting player could only slice his shot wide. 2 minutes later Ben Emmett hit a volley which bounced down and the visitors keeper pushed the ball over the bar. With 10 minutes left Joe Emmett hit a volley that hit the bar and bounced to safety with the keeper beaten. The last 10 minutes were end to end, with both teams going for the win. Probus looked to have blown their chance when substitute Connor Rhodes pulled a ball back from the bye line, but home skipper Sam Bullen fired over the bar. He was not to be denied though when, in the fifth minute of injury time, a ball went over the visitors defence and player-manager, Justin Trebilcock squared it past the keeper, for Sam Bullen to tap into an empty net. 3-2 was the final score. The referee, James Long, was excellent - he communicated well and let the game flow, he even had a bit of banter with the supporters! Probus first team are at home against Mawnan reserves next week, and the newly reformed Probus reserve team are away at Troon. Brandon Mcdonnell
St Erme and Godolphin 2-2 Penryn Athletic Reserves Match Report- The saints welcomed Penryn to their new ground at Godolphin Way , Wearing the brand new kit Proudly sponsored by South West Sweepers Ltd The saints started with Dan in Goal, Jared and Craig full backs, new singing Ash and Cam in the centre, with Cain, Kyle and new skipper Freddie in midfield, with Thierry and Brandon outwide and new signing Luke up top. Penryn started the better and took the lead after a sluggish start from the Saints when their striker fired home. The saints struggled to get a foothold of the game and created very few chances in the first half, the visitors continued to apply the pressure but they were unable to add to their lead. The saints did have the the ball in the back of the net before half time but was ruled out for offside. The saints came out after the break firing and made the game level when Thierry squared the ball to Brandon and he calmly slotted past the keeper. It didn’t last too long tho as Penryn retook the lead with a bit of confusion at the back led to their striker heading home for his 2nd of the game. The saints continued to push for an equaliser creating a lot of chances just failing to convert. After some tidy play Freddie played a pass behind the defence for Thierry when the on rushing goalkeeper brought him down inside the box for Brandon to step up and covert by sending the keeper the wrong way. New signing Tyler came on to make his competitive debut for the club , and leverton came on for Craig at left back. The game then got feisty when penryns striker was sent off which gave the Saints a boost to go a get a winner with a late chance to steal the 3 points when a lovely cross found Brandon at the back post but was not able to convert the header. The game finished 2-2 and the points were shared a well fought point to get the season started when the performance was not to the standards we want. We will be looking to put that right Tommorow night when we welcome Goonhavern to Godolphin Way in which both clubs will be looking for their first 3 points after opening day draws for both sides.
