SWPL Champions Bowl result - May 8 2023

Recommended Posts

St Blazey 1v1 Brixham. 3v5 pens. Att.227

A very good match to end the season for both clubs. St Blazey had two good chances after the goals to re take the lead. Thought St Blazey played some good football on the day.

A few highlights from todays match, including all the goals and the penalties along with the presentation after the match.

East was always the better league since the split into east/west. Seeing oke are giving liskeard a football lesson as well

How longs the split been? Are we talking two seasons? Plenty of time yet for that trend to be reversed!

But have to add that Okehampton by far the better side today. Liskeard failed to create too much and lost their heads in the end.

Okehampton’s first half penalty some would say was harsh. I’m assuming it was given for some players coming together which I think the asst ref flagged for. Has to be the first time this season I’ve seen a Lino flag so vigorously! Let’s hope it starts a precedent for next season

However no excuse for the two sin bins and the host of yellows that resulted in Harry Jeffery and Hodgey both being shown red. Both sides had quite a few!

Funny old game isn’t it though as it wasn’t a dirty one, just Liskeard lost their discipline and eventually the contest!

To be fair that oakhampton team is playing well below what it should be. Some players have played southern league not that long ago.

Luke Mortimore is definitely a step 3/4 quality player (ex Tiverton and Willand).

Brad Ausden, Luke Alden and Ben Bickle have also played for Willand at thar level.

The best player we came up against in the East last season. Him and Rowe were superb from Okey.

A very good side and it'd be good to see them promoted soon.

They've finished 2nd this season to another excellent Brixham side and 3rd last season behind Torpoint & Brixham. Hopefully they can keep hold of the group and win it next year.
