RAPPO
CORNWALL FA INTERMEDIATE CUP FINAL (AT WADEBRIDGE) ATT 201 REF MR KEVIN KNOWLES MOM BARRIE WYATT (ILLOGAN) ILLOGAN 1 Hampton 77’ ST.DOMINICK 0 Apologies for any mistakes, didn’t have any team sheets and not watched much St.Piran league stuff this season. First thing to say was how nice the playing surface was at Bodieve Park today!! Congrats to Rog and his team for their hard work 👏🏼 Also ref Mr Kevin Knowles reffing his last final today before retiring at the end of the season, what a great career Kev! One of the county’s most respected officials 👏🏼 My heart said Illogan knowing a lot of the lads there but my head was saying St.Dominick after watching them recently. Was looking forward to the game between 2 teams that are full of goals but the game didn’t quite pan out like that! One of the main reasons for this was the 2 excellent keepers at either end. The first great chance to open the scoring came in the 14th minute when the Saints were awarded a penalty after a handball in the area. Harvey Barrett who had recently tucked away 2 penalties in the semi final v Foxhole completely fluffed his lines this time scuffing his spot kick straight down the middle for Barrie Wyatt to save with ease. Illogan responded in the 21st minute with captain Steve Abbott-Smiths powerful header turned over the bar by St.Dom skipper Jamie Blatchford in goal. The game was turning into a physical battle and Mr Knowles was showing some patience and experience keeping his cards in his pocket. Illogan did find the net when a mis hit free kick was turned in after 53 minutes but was adjudged to be offside. St.Dom looked the more likely getting in behind the Illogan defence after 63 minutes but Kieran Ryall was denied one on one by excellent keeper Barrie Wyatt flying off his line to block. 5 minutes later Wyatt was at it again denying the Saints in another one on one situation. These saves proved crucial in the 77th minute when substitute Nathan Hampton cut in from the left wing and hit a superb strike across Blatchford and into the far corner to take the lead. The game was getting a bit prickly and Mr Knowles produced a few yellow cards in a 10 minute spell to maintain his authority on the game and the Saints probably lost any comeback chance when they were reduced to 10 men with an 85th minute sin bin. It was Illogan who almost doubled their lead when the usually reliable Abbott-Smith volleyed over in the 91st minute from 8 yards but it mattered little as about 10 minutes later he was holding the trophy aloft with his jubilant team mates. Another trophy for the Illogan cabinet at Oxland Park and just about deserved on the day. As for St.Dom they have another chance of a trophy next weekend when they meet Mousehole Development in the league cup final at St.Austell. You feel they deserve to end up with some silverware after finishing runners up in the East division and reaching 2 cup finals!! Well done Mikey and all the Illogan lads on your success 👏🏼👍⚽️ Jamieblatchford, Soccer Follower, Thecupfootballblogger and 2 others
Mike Pascoe
It was role reversal today from our semi final clash, that game we missed a pen and St Dominick went onto win , today barrie saved a pen and we went onto win, a great goal from Nathan Hampton to win the game for us today, always looked like a one goal game and thankfully we got the goal. St Dominick are a great side and enjoyed our encounters against them this season, glad we got our win today and think the St Dominick v Mousehole game next week will be a great game to watch which could also go either way Jamieblatchford

Have to agree with Rappo that Barrie man of the match. A couple crucial second half blocks against the St Dominick forwards.
RAPPO
Well done Deacs!! You did call it after about half hour mate!! 👏🏼 I said St.Dom looking a bit more likely with their pacy forwards, and Deacs said if Illogan stay in it, they’ll go on to win it 2nd half. That’s why he’s Mr Cornish Football Esq!! ⚽️👏🏼 I thought it was going to be a 3-2 type match but it turned into a cagey one goal will win it type of final, and it was a great strike worthy of winning any final 👍⚽️👏🏼

Well done Mikey and all the Illogan lads on your success 👏🏼👍⚽️ Fantastic report, as ever, Rappo! I thought St Doms for most of the game were the better side, but just couldn’t stick the ball in the net. Barrie Wyatt was superb in the Illogan goal. That said, the crucial goal scored was worthy of winning any cup final. If this wasn’t right at the end of his career I think one or two players could have been in trouble. Mr Knowles was pretty forgiving as the game was pretty testy at times. Would also commend Wadebridge in hosting the game. Great venue, pitch, organisation and welcome. I always enjoy visits to the Bridgers! RAPPO and MattP
S Abbo
Echo comments Wadebridge amazing hosts was a proper cup final day.. Delighted to win it as I feel we deserve something having only lost about 2 in the last 27. . However I'm sure St Dom will feel like they deserve something too from this season. Great side with a couple top players....should be a good day next week...the double header at St Austel.. Illogan and Mikey P with another trophy in the bag. 🏆 Thecupfootballblogger
