Grassrootsgary
League Cup Semi Final Illogan 0 Doms 1 A battling performance got us through to a second final in less than a week with this narrow victory. With constant heavy rain throughout conditions weren’t the most conducive to flowing football. The first twenty minutes was a bit frenetic from both sides, a huge blow to us after a couple of minutes with skipper Ryan Corey having to be carried off. Illogan were then awarded a penalty for handball and the west sides goalkeeper stepped up to take only to for his effort to go wide of the post. We edged the rest of the half, the keeper redeeming himself by saving from both Harvey Barrett and tipping Alex Jacob’s effort onto the bar and all level at half time. The second half and with the continual rain making it a difficult surface to move the ball on. A quality finish though put us ahead on the hour, Taylor Gerry winning the ball before setting Toby Morgan through and his excellent lob over the keeper broke the deadlock. Illogan threw bodies forward in search of an equaliser which gave us opportunities on the counter but the heavy pitch didn’t make it easy to get clean strikes away. At the other end the back line and Jamie Blatchford handled the pressure as we made it through to the final - date to be confirmed. A huge shift once again in extremely heavy conditions from all the players, despite a few knocks and loosing our captain at the start of the game. MOTM went to Gerry who covered a huge amount of ground in the middle of the park.

Foul Throw 3
Why on Earth did Illogan’s goalkeeper take a penalty? Who does he think he is, Jose Chilavert??

Or more to the point unplayable surfaces due to the deluge falling from the sky.

He always does and to be fair hardly ever misses! Normally blasts it at goal!
Ian Hunn
I amsure he is their regular penalty taker but this wasn’t his best a bit scuffed dragged wide! On the other hand over the course of the game he made at least 4or 5 excellent saves to keep St Dom at bay. Blatch on the other hand had a fairly quiet afternoon in our goal. Another great battling performance to reach a second final within a few days fully deserved !!
Foul Throw 3
Fair enough. Unusual to see. I’d be worried a save would result in a counter and he’s nowhere near his own box.
Postman Pat
You've never met Barrie John,. Thinks he's a centre forward with gloves on. And when he does play up top tends to score. Foul Throw 3
GaryHocking
As well as Chilavert (mentioned above) I think Rene Higuita used to take penalties too. If your best penalty taker is your goalkeeper, then let your goalkeeper take the penalties.

I asked the question because I don't recall this fixture being advertised locally anywhere.
