Torpoint AFC 6-0 Callington Town

Torpoint XI: Brown, Bouch, Coutts, Manuel, Mason, Robbins, Payn, Taylor, Small, Cullerton, Manuel

Subs: Haslam, Murray, Martindale, Sinclair, Gibbons (definitely not used)

It was great to welcome Lee and his team to The Mill for a game under lights, with their first team being called late he was also able to be joined by Kev and Chairman, Steve. For us, it'd be 2 games without a win coupled with 2 poor performances so this was a chance to change both.

The opening 10 mins we settled quickly, with Payn, Robbins and Taylor influencing in the middle of the pitch. Small was released early and often to put us on the front foot. For our dominance, it was the visitors who had the best of the opening chances. First Hansford was released well one on one verses Brown but he was only able to drag his shot wide. Soon after, Callington had another golden chance. With the ball cleared from a corner, we were late to press out of our box and the defenders punt dropped to Burrell who couldn't believe he was onside 8 yards from goal but his shot was well blocked by Manuel. We knew that we'd have to take a chance from anywhere and Payn did just that, after a neat one two with Taylor he set and shot from 25 yards with the ball looping over the keeper. Our threats were still coming from wide areas and with that, one became two. This time Small stood his defender up before pushing the ball past and drilling across the box for Mason at the back post for his 2nd goal in his 3rd game for the Club.

HT was more pleasant than it'd been in previous weeks, we were expectant to go on to win the game with Callington tiring and struggling with injuries but we were adamant that we had to keep a clean sheet.

In the second period we further dominated the ball, Payn added to his tally with another strike from 25 yards. Haslam's introduction from the bench was felt immediately as he headed home from a well worked cross. The influential skipper Taylor added our 5th before some neat footwork to beat his man inside the area only to be dragged down. Up stepped Payn to complete his hattrick, you wouldn't have thought it after the game though... Very non-plussed.

It was good to see Allen and Simon again at The Mill, it must've been a comfortable game to official with zero dissent and minimal fouls. Credit to Allen for really letting the game flow.

Mousehole Devs 1-0 Millbrook

tight game played at St Austell, we lost 5 of our starting 11 against Illogan at the weekend, 2 cup tied, 1 injured , 1 taken by first team at 1pm on the day and another who only found out he could get cover at work at 4.30 on the day 🙈. We ended the game with a back 4 consisting of 3 16year olds and 1 37year old 😂. Game played in right spirit, settled by early goal in first half, Millbrook from what I can gather had their own issues with lack of players also but still had some real quality players. Great bunch of lads and wish them all the best for the remainder of the season, onwards to the final 👍
